After playing the guitar for a few days I decided that I really like/need/want a humbucker in the bridge position of my guitars... So that being said I ordered up a DiMarzio soapbar humbucker, the DLX Plus.

Although after getting it shipped in I realized that "Houston we have a problem..."

Being direct mounted I knew that this was not going to work real well.

Hmmmm... Ship it back? Modify my brand new guitar? Uh-uh, time to break out the chisels and hammer...

Ta Da!!!

There that's much better... and the final product.

That's what I'm talking about. Killer tone and I still have the single coil in the neck.

This may not be for everyone, but those with MM90 AL's that want a little more ooomph in the bridge might consider this.

Anyone need an MM90 single coil bridge pickup?

Fred, I was wondering what you had up your sleeve when you mentioned modding the Axis. I didn't even know those pickups existed. I bet it sounds great!

I just finished a mod on my Soldano amp feeding off of my Blue Dawn kick. Beej was kind enough to help me out with it, I'll try and post pics or a vid sometime tomorrow, I'm out of free time for today.

Interesting. Though i have to say the bridge MM90 on the ASS sounds very different in the AL, I find the AL to be more receptive to gain than the ASS in the bridge position. No idea why. Though it seems a lot of players dont bond with the bridge MM90 for awhile, it has a particular tone that is different from single coils and humbuckers, and when you get past the frustration of not knowing what to do with it, you can find a nice place/tone that you just cant get with single coils or humbuckers. Food for thought.

exactly what my experience was.
Bridge MM90 in AL is a really usefull option to have. it needs a bit time to get bond and to tweak amps and effects for it.
i grew to a big P90s fan in the last few months.

Beej, we need some pics bud... I'm curious to see what "pinky" looks like now.

Headstock, the only difference was in the height of the pickup, I didn't even consider that there would be a difference when I ordered it... It made me pucker for a sec when I realized what it meant I had to do to make it work.

I wish I could record some pics, hmmm... maybe I can setup my PodXT while I wait for my new amp... there's an idea for a Sunday afternoon.

Rob I hear you, and if I didn't have another MM90 equipped Axis SS on the way, I probably wouldn't have done this, but it really does sound nice.

Well done rocker!!! I must admit, the slight color difference would bug me to death. You could get a chrome covers and knobs. That would be sick.
