Modifying Stingray 5!?

Hi this is my first post.

I have an excellent Stingray 5, I really like the sound. But, I just tried a bongo with two pickups fitted, I really liked the phat sound to it. I think its because of having two pickups. I didn't really want to put it down, except for the looks...

Has anyone fitted two to their Stinray 5? What's the sound like etc...

maybe you should buy a Bongo.....I would leave the SR5 just the way it is.( thinking about everyone back in the old days doing all kinds of things to their Pbasses and what the mods have done to their resale value now that they are cosidered vintage)

There's nothing wrong with the looks of the Bongo. Everytime I use mine I get favourable compliments, except of course from reactionary bass players, which is what I'd expect.

I'm not so sure you would get the same sound by adding a second pup to a Stringray 5 as the bridge pup on the Bongo is closer to the bridge than the SR5. Using the bridge pups alone you get quite a different tone from each. Adding a second pup to an SR5 would not necessarily give you the same sound as a Bongo. What about the 4-band EQ?

Get a Bongo. It's the only way to get that sound.

Having a 4 band eq in the bass might work well, seems less drastic than to put another pickup in. But, I could do that on the amp.

I might save up for a bongo 4 string, I haven't really heard that sound before, it was so full.

"vonfog" did it to an OLP. He also made it a 12 string.
