Does anyone know if the maximum amount for a single money order is $1000? The reason I ask is that I am awaiting receipt of funds for a sale of more that $1000, and should I be expecting "2" money orders?

I have never been a part of a transaction like this, and have read that there are ways to counterfeit money orders. Any insight on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a link that I found: USPS - Money Order Security Features

Kind Regards,

Hi. The maximum value for USPS money orders is $1000, so it would have to be more than one. The best way to tell if they are counterfeit it to go down to the post office and cash them before shipping the bass out.

Of course, there are lots of other kinds of money orders out there, some of which would be alot harder to verify than the USPS ones.

Did you specifify that it had to be a USPS money order?

If they come from moneygram you can call them and verify the money order as well. Pretty much all issuers of money orders have a number you can call to verify that the MO is not fake.

To answer your original question, money orders have a max face value of $1,000
