Humans are capable of unimaginable cruelty.

Hehheh. All things considered, this StingRay isn't as butchered as others have been, right? I can faintly recall more gruesome murders than this one.

you are right

this project is not unsalvagable

but I just don't understand the logic behind that type of a modification.

As they say here in the south-

Some people don't know how to leave well enough alone.....

"the original Musicman pickup...had 4 sharp pole pieces sticking up and seem to get in my way when playing. "

I've heard a few other people say this. Hmm, never had that problem myself - how hard are these guys digging in, and do they always play right over the pickup?

In any case, while I wouldn't change out the pickup, especially for a Bart, it's reversable.

I tend to, and the pole pieces on my Stingray are on the sharp side.

It bothered me to begin with, but now I don't notice it so much.

Hmm....the seller claims it's a 2004 model. However, the serial reads as E27989 (at least to me it did). According to Gav's site, that shold be around January of 2002. Weirded out.

Probably bought it "new" this year and assumed it was made this year.

My Stingray was bought "new" about a year ago, but turned out to be from 2001...

Not quite as bad as the 1996 Fender Anniversary Precision one shop was trying to sell as new at the same time.

Yeah, he prolly bought it at some blowout sale somewhere this year and is selling it as a 2004. False advertising!! This madness must stop!

yes, I was going to ask, didn't EBMM change the pole pieces to have beveled edges in 1992?

cause my 93 is easy, but i had a 91 (i think) for a while that was sharp.

Mine is an '01 with sharp edges.

I was looking at this last night, seems the reason I'm no longer bothered by the sharp edges is that I no longer touch them (except with my right hand thumb).

I guess I unconciously improved my technique.

Changing stuff....

I must admit, on a cold day long ago, I bought a piece of 5 string fire wood that said ibanez on the head. On crappy purchases like that, I not only understand, but I suggest that people make mods to it. I do not understand the theory of swapping pickups, bridges or tuners etc. on a bass like a Stingray. Doesn't the damn bass sound good enough already. Any mods are not going to be worth the time and effort and money to swap out. I have basses with Bartolini's, EMG's and other stock stuff, and my Stingray still blows all of them out of the water...They are louder, clearer and overall just better pickups. So WHY!?

I would never swap out my pickups in my stingrays. i did however put a d-tuner on my 03 stingray, my 78 is completely stock.

the only things I mod heavily are guitars (6strings)
