Pertaining to the standard Steve Morse mode guitar, and please forgive me if this question has been asked and answered before; but, at what height do you have all your pickups set?

As I watch the Youtube vids of Steve and Big Poppa, one thing that keeps hitting my mind is that BP says that Steve's pickups are set fairly low. Does that go for both models or just the Y2D that Steve was demonstrating?

Thanks much!

A while back I asked Dan how they set the Morse heights at the factory-

---

From the top of the plastic cover to the bottom of the string. All heights are approximate.

Bridge - 4/32"
Middle (both) - 5/32"
Neck - 4/32"

A little close on treble side, maybe 1/32" or so.

---

Steve has the p'ups on his #1 set really low. Tommy probably knows how low.

The Y2D heights are lower. I have this- not sure if it's correct:

Bridge - 5/32
Neck - 6/32
Single - 9/32 (treble), 6/32 (bass)

The pickups on my Morse are also low. I changed a bit the factory setting. I still have somewhere the measurments of the factory settings.
I think there was a thread on this topic, perhaps one year ago, where the tech guys (beej, tommy ...) gave the exact measurments.

Hi guys, excuse my bit of a stoopid question, but as a European I´m not used to calculate in inches.

1" = 2,54 cm

4/32" = (4/32) * 2,54 = 0,3175 cm

That doesn´t make sense? The result must be around 0,8 cm when I look on my Morse.
How do I have do calculate?

Banjo,

1" = 2.54cm - you're correct...

4/32" coverted to decimal = 0.125"

0.125" = 0.3175cm

So, it looks like you're correct with your conversion.

Thanks butch,

the reason why I´m askin is, that 0.3175cm "From the top of the plastic cover to the bottom of the string" is really close to the strings, isn´t it?

I think I remember Tommy saying, that Steve´s Humbuckers on # 1 are nearly flat on the pickguard, which is estimated 0.8 - 0.9 cm (0.31 " - 0.35 "). So I think 0.3 cm is a rather high setting. Mine are at 0.5 cm (0.2 ") at bridge and 0.45 cm (0.18 ") neck.

Sorry for all the cm-confusion. Inches are really weired to a European :D

Ok, just measured mine. The Y2D heights are what I posted- I haven't altered mine at all.

My Morse buckers are close, they're both about 4/32" - 5/32" from top of pickup to bottom of string. (I've replaced the singles, so my current measurements don't translate.)

Interesting - I believe what you're saying and I normally wouldn't say anything else on the subject; but I know Steve's #1 has the pickups set very low. Are they lower than the factory sends them out?

I check the pickups height of my Morse :
HB : 6 mm
SC : 7 mm
You can see that on the pictures of my Morse (click on the link in my signature)
The single coils were too high for me (if you zoom on the photos, you can see that the pickups covers are worn : I pick too hard it seems)

I haven't measured mine, but since I just got it I'm sure the settings are at factory specs.

It would be interesting to know the actual measurments of Steve's #1 or perhaps someone has a closeup of it where the pickup height is visible.
