Hello All,

I've had a long-standing, long-distance obsession with Morse guitars. The long-standing should be obvious since they look to be incredible guitars, but the long-distance is frustrating because despite my best efforts, I've never actually seen one in person. As the holiday season is upon us, I am in the mood to buy myself a new Christmas present, and once again, I come back to wanting a Morse. For those who own, have owned, or have played one, I have a couple of questions. I have a Morse Y2D Darklord, and an Axis and love them both for what they are. Comparatively, how are the necks on the standard Morse? What about the extra pickup? Does it get in the way for mortal players? I've next bought a high-end guitar online before because I normally want to play them and get to know them a bit, but I kinda think it's gonna be my only option if I go this route.

Appreciate any insight you guys can offer.

Cameron,

I have a handful of a Morses, so happy to help out...

If you have a Dark Lord from either of the first two runs, then those have a decidedly thicker neck than other Morses.

On the extra pickup, to play in the style of Steve that extra angled pickup is screwed down pretty far - so doesn't really serve as a pick-block like I've seen on triple hukbucker Les Pauls. What some people do complain about is that "add bridge" toggle on a standard Morse. If you're used to windmilling like Pete Townsend, then you might hit it...

Where are you located at? Music Man is worldwide, so let us know and maybe we can point you to a local spot to take one for a test drive. :)

I have a morse I don't have the 4th pick up screwed down I got it used I like the slanted pick up for me the switching isn't difficult to use or understand but I feel there are more options than I need or want I like the guitar its comfortable to play but considering trading/ selling for a sting ray or somthing else I like the 12" radius and the fact that it has a pick guard . I might also change the pick ups that being said its a good guitar.

Kevin,

Thank you for the info and the offer. I was ready to throw out a call for Indy based Morse owners and then stumbled onto an online deal for one that I couldn't pass up. After contemplating a drive to Chicago and finding no one willing to spend 7 hours in a car (round-trip), for me to see a guitar, I bought it. Definitely not the normal guitar acquisition route that I prefer, but there's a first for everything!

I'm gonna be stalking the UPS driver the next couple of days!

Indy? Hell, I'm only an hour from there - none of mine are for sale, but let's just say I have a *lot* of Morses - so you could have taken several for a test drive.

So... what did you get? Inquiring mind! :)

I bought an original Morse this year and I've loved it. The neck is fine, certainly not a huge boatneck, I'd call it midsize. The middle pickup doesn't get in the way any more than a Start middle pickup. I like the variety of choices for pickup settings. The extra single coil next to the neck can give you some Stratty sounds by itself or when mixed with the humbuckers. I've used the Morse at 2 gigs so far. It's really kind of killed my guitar GAS as of late, much less browsing on Reverb since I bought it.

I got a used Morse from GC. They claim it to be in great condition and the price was right. Plus I believe I can return (minus shipping) if it's a dud. Things fell into place perfectly and my wife said "Merry Christmas" so I ordered. I'll post a pic soon!!

I know you guys are all on the edge of your seats while waiting to hear what I think about the Morse (ha ha), and after jamming with a friend last night, I've gotta say I love it. I love my Dark Lord and Axis for what they are, but the tones I got out of the new one were killer, and I adjusted to the extra pickup pretty fast. The top switch got in the way a bit, but I think I'll adjust pretty fast, and it will probably tighten up my control a bit. Could be the "new guitar effect", but my buddy and I just kept going back to it. Thanks to all who provided some input! I got a killer deal on a guitar in perfect condition and couldn't be happier. Merry Christmas to me!!
