Moving with my Sterling

In less than a week I am moving. My bass will be on the truck and while it will be secure in its case, the trip should last 2-3 days. Should I leave tuned up or detune? I've seen this question before on other forums and always with different answers.

I think what really matters is that you loosen your truss rod so the neck won't be warped by temperature/humidity change.

Have a safe trip! :)

Ya dude. Dont worry about it. It will be fine. Just whenever you get to your destination....check it. I would let it sit for about a day to get used to the change in humidity and whatever. It shouldn't make a huge difference though. After about a day tune it back up and it should still be in great shape. You have to keep in mind a lot of touring bands without guitar tech's go all around the country and it is fine.

Any bets on how many cents off it will be when it gets to where it is going?

Hello all, moved back to MD. last week. My Sterling was riding on the passenger seat. Made it just fine. Truss rod needed a small turn but, all is fine.

I'd leave it tuned. The only reason I see for detuning it is if your flying because up high there isnt as much pressure. and the strings will stay tense and the neck will break or bend so i was told.

The pressure differential wouldn't matter too much since your bass isn't filled with air. The temperature differential is the bigger gotcha.

I was told since the strings would still be tight and pulling on the neck and the pressure changes the truss rod wouldnt say in the same place and your neck would bend
