I was clarifying that the temperature change is what is causing the problem, not the pressure change. Yes, the net effect would still be the same if the bass were placed in an unheated, unpressurized cargo hold. However, your bass is not a bottle of shampoo. :D

I guess the big thing to worry about is humidity. Aircraft cargo holds get cold, but usually not so cold you can't transport live animals in them. However, drop the temperature and water vapour in the air condenses to liquid water, and you don't want that on your bass' neck. Toss a couple of silica gel packs in the case (warm them in the oven for half an hour, and cool first to renew them) to avoid this.

I assume you didn't eat the silica pack that came with your bass? :)

...You might also want to leave the bass in its case for a few hours after getting off the plane, to slowly bring it up to ambient temperature.

Sudden temperature changes are bad, but cases are insulated.
