I have a JP15 that has the factory strings on it (RPS). I would like strings that are a little more responsive to hammer ons, pull offs and trills. Has anyone tried the Msteel Strings on a JP? If so, what was your experience with them? Also, I am open to other suggestions. I am also thinking about NYXLs.

Thanks.

Vic,

I have been using the M-steel on my standard model JP6 for the past 6-7 months and the wound strings feel a little softer to the touch than the standard nickel-wound (much like how the cobalt strings feel softer). This does help me some with hammer-ons, trills, and pull-offs on the wound strings, while the plain steel strings in this set feel similar to the plain strings in the other sets. I haven't tried the NYXL so I can't give a comparison there.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'responsive' - sounds like more of a technique issue. Maybe a lighter gauge of whatever you're currently using?

While my technique isn't the greatest, I don't have trouble with hammer ons, pull offs and trills with my other guitars. I think it is the strings more than any thing else. Just looking for thoughts, I think the Msteels would probably do the job.

Thanks Pete. I will give them a try.

I was using m-steels on my silo but wanted a slightly heavier tension so ive gone to cobalt 9 hybrids. I have found them a lot nicer to play and the extra tension has helped me a lot with right hand picking technique, sound very similar to the m-steels too, not quite as bright though.

Ordered the m-steels and will give the cobalt hybrids and NYXLs a try next. Thanks all.

I just posted a thread on "m-steels" for my new JP 6 (which is the same trem I think) and they are crazy good. I'm not some little kid who just likes the "latest" thing, I'm shocked by how well they stretched, tuned and now stay in tune.

Hi Notshredding, got mine on yesterday and had a similar experience to you. Thanks for your response.

Hmmm...I may try another set of M-Steels. I've been so satisfied with the NYXL's though that I have a hard time even thinking about using something else, but my local shops always seem to have the M-Steels fairly cheaper than the NYXL's.

Any NYXL fans switch to M-Steels?!?

I use msteels on my jp12 since I can't find my loved titanium coated I used forever.
And I'm as satisfied with msteel, they last forever !
(I destroy most of the brands even cleaning the strings as soon as I touch them)
