I wouldn't recommand zoom, I have a zoom pedal, it's not bad, but you'de better spend some more money on a much better multi-effect pedal, like the Boss me50BI
I never played with the digitech or the pandora

Don't buy something with a plastic case if you expect to gig with it. The Boss ME-50B is built like a tank, has an intuitive interface with no menus to navigate, and excellent compression, overdrive and chorus effects. The wahs and delays are pretty good too.

If you want an extensive unit, try the Boss GT-6B. I bought one mainly for a chorus and a fretless sound before I got my SR5 fretless. Tons of great sounds in a rugged steel case. Excellent unit if you like tweaking your sound. :p

I owned a GT-6B before the ME-50B was released earlier this year, and I agree it's a great unit. However for live work the LCD display is hard to read and the menu based navigation system is fiddly and time consuming. Also, unless you require amp and cab simulators and MIDI, the GT-6B is overkill for a live unit. Having said that, it is a fine unit for recording. In fact, I used its SWR amp simulator direct for cutting a demo CD.

I would recommend a Zoom for the money. I have an older model (3000B), it's good, besides 708II got a good review from BP.

Yet, I would only recommend a multieffect pedal to a beginner (I bought mine when I was a beginner). Better to go with separate analog pedals.

I tried the GT6 and the bass pod pro, and I was not satisfied. They can do a lot of things, but the sound is dull. I use now only the amp (ampeg svt3 pro) and sometimes with sans amp or sonic maximizer. If you want effects, go analogue :)

I think it's all personal. I can tell you what I use on my Zoom (to be changed to separate analogs when I have the money): Compressor+Dist/OD+Chorus/Detune+Delay/Reverb

I use comp+dist most of the time, chorus and/or reverb comes in handy sometimes but not always. Especially chorus makes a huge difference during a melodic solo. But again, this is all personal...

Yep, but when I try a processor I do this : I open a new user sound, with no effect but the compressor. I do my best to make a good sound. If the sound it's better than the natural sound of the bass (directly in amp, no bypass) than I try the rest of the effects. If not, why pay bucks for a worst sound?

In my rock cover band I use quite a few, but don't go overboard. On the ME-50B I use the tuner, compressor, a touch of overdrive on a few songs, phaser on a couple of 80's tunes, touch wah on a Lenny Kravitz song, some delay for Stray Cat style rockabilly slap, and the octaver on one or two songs. So, that's 7 effects for the price of 2 single Boss pedals, which by my calculations is good value for money.
