Hello All,

I know this is the "guitar" forum, but also figure this is the best place to get some info.

There is a Music Man 112RP amp available locally, but far enough away to allow a quick test drive in person. Given the awesome quality of Music Man guitars, I'd imagine the same holds for their amps. Does anyone here have any first hand experience with this amp? If so, could you share your thoughts?

Thanks,
Marc

They are good reliable "Fenderish" sounding amps.
They don't sound as good as the best Blackface Fneders in my opinion, but they are still good, gig worthy amps if you need a good clean and loud tone.
If the price is a bargain, I would try it out. Don't expect a great heavy distortion tone.

My first "good" amp was a Music Man RD50 -112 - which was their last amp model designed in 1981. I got mine new in the summer of 1981 and kept it until I quit playing in 1986 (I returned to playing in 1992). Not the same model, but I would agree with Mpcoluv that they are in the Fender realm.

The old Music Mans were hybrid amps - they have a solid state preamp with a tube power amp - the exceptions being the earliest models which did have some tubes in the preamp and that RD50 series that I had (the RD50s were single-channel amps that had a single preampt tube in the gain channel that was kind of like having a BK Butler tube driver inside the amp).

There are actually a couple of different RPs depending on the year; some are 65 watts, others are 100 watts. The first version only ran from 1978-79, the second version ran from 1980 until the company went bankrupt in 1984. Also, the "P" stands for an on-board phaser. Here is a link to a website with info on the MusicMan amps - it's pretty good but it does have an error with the RD50 amps - I bought mine in 1981 and the site says they came out in 1982:

Marc-

I have no experience with MM amps, but fyi they were designed and made BEFORE Ernie Ball bought MM. The awesome quality of the guitars is something that happened later.

Marc,

Let me know if you try it, always been curious, and have a co-worker that has one that likes it but not one I could try it out with, I look for one that is in decent condition and not over priced to try myself:cool:

Mm 112rd50

Hi all,

i know this is a tread for guitars, but i found no amp-tread.

6 weeks ago i got a MM 112RD50 and i´m very lucky with this fine amp. But the Channel-Switch on the amp goes bad, so i´m looking for some spare parts to repair.

Does anyone know about spare parts for MM Amps in Europe?

Because i´m livin´in Europe / Germany.

Thanks

I have an HD-130 (which is 2x12) that I like. Mine was built after they had the 12x794t79#$%^45hwatever tube in the preamp, and I wish I had that as I understand that preamp tube "warms it up" a little more, but it's great sounding and really loud, and really heavy. I'd love to get a 1x12 to lug around a little easier.

The thing about the MM amps is that with the solid state preamp, you can get it really loud before it starts to break up, meaning, you get crystal clear cleans that will rip your face off before it starts to distort. Just play thru a tube screamer for when you need the overdrive and you're good to go!
