Some people say the Albert Lee SSS is sort of a hybrid Strat/Tele. Whether or not it sounds Tele enough for you, I suppose you'd have to make up your mind about that yourself.
This may sound strange but for me a Silhouette has that snappy/bright sound. The pich-up are good for clean/ medium crunch sounds. Must tell i never played a Albert Lee
@Norrin Radd, haha that's not even fair. Beautiful guitar though, too bad its not an option. As BenG mentioned probably the Albert Lee with Single coils. This guy modified his Albert Lee with A G-Bender its doing a good job of getting that sound. Telecaster, albert Lee, Highway 40 blues, b-bender - YouTube
I don't think any EBMM guitars are going to get you dead on to any of the 60 year old classics anyone wants to sound like. They are a breed onto themselves and very tonally versatile. The best way to put it would it get you in that ball park, and the answer is yes.
OK...it's quite obvious that the SSS Albert will get you pretty close to the typical tele sound...it's got a voice of it's own and is capable of a lot more than just that. Another guitar I've had pretty good results with is the standard Morse, you gotta play a little with the pickup configs and tone control but to my ears the Morse can come quite close to the typical Tele sound, too!
I have numerous stratocasters, a JP, SM, and a 25th anniversary Reflex. For me, the Reflex comes the closest although one of my strats does pretty good too.
Don't let the humbuckers fool you, the Reflex is plenty bright. I think it's more like a thinline tele. The in-between settings are much more tele than strat.
Thank you everyone. I was just thinking about what EBMM guitar I would like to buy next. I always loved the sound of a tele. Ir doesn't have to be exact, just close. Thank you again everyone.
