I have 3 Axis guitars. A 1996 Axis with the EVH Style Gotoh 1988T, a 2000 Axis with the Gotoh 1996T and a 2012 PDN Honeyroasted Axis with the Music Man Floyd. The 1996 and 2000 Axis feel and play very similar while the 2012 Axis just feels different. The thing I notice first is that is the new term feels a little more "chunky" and not as comfortable. I was thinking about swapping out the Music Man Floyd for a Gotoh 1996T that feels slimmer to me to see if that will change the overall feel of the guitar.

I know someone here has swapped for the Gotoh unit on a 2012/Later Axis. Anyone want to share their experience? I love the guitar, but I don't play it much since my other 2 Axis with the Gotoh trem just flat out feel better to me.

I have an Axis Tribute with a the newer style trem, which I swapped out for the Gotoh 1996T. On my guitar it made a huge positive difference. The 1996T is a great tremelo and fits right in.

Good luck with the choice!
