I was wondering if anyone can help me. I currently have a Petrucci JPX6 and a Silhouette Special and have also owned a few Axis. I am thinking about getting a Luke BFR and don't know much about the neck. Is it the same neck as on the Axis and Silhouette Special. I did see in the specs that it's nut is 1 5/8 like the Axis and Silhouette Special. There's something about those necks that I just love. They are so comfortable.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Todd the Luke has a V shaped neck, really comfortable. In fact to me it's the most comfortable guitar in the EBMM line.

yup, the luke's got a very comfortable V. you'll definitely notice the V shape but everyone that's tried mine has liked it quite a bit.

personally i wouldnt be able to pick between the axis and luke necks. both different yet comfy to me

I'll echo what everyone else has said. I used to think that the EVH/Axis neck was the most comfortable ever...and then I tried a Luke. The shape combined with the more flatter 12" radius makes it hard to beat, IMO.

huh?! what? sorry I got so distracted from your avatar that I almost forgot what the question was:eek: oh right…the whole reason I became an EBMM player is the necks period. I used to have a Kramer Nightswan that had an unbelievably smooth neck and got spoiled by it. Then came the Axis i bought in 2001…WOW! so nice and easy to play. it didn't feel like i was holding on to a baseball bat like some other guitars (which some like but doesn't do it for me)

TOTALLY agree. I can't get over how much different AND BETTER EBMM necks feel. They feel like none other. My only real complaint is their love for Basswood and Alder. I'm a Mahogany with Maple top man myself and wish they used it more than they do. I guess that's from always playing Les Pauls. I seem to gravitate toward that thick Mahogany tone. Then EVERY TIME I go and pick up my Music Man guitars I just shake my head and wonder why in the world they would just hang on the wall like that. It's all about the tone though and I just can't get that tone I love so much out of my Silo. Now, my new JPX6 kicks total ass. I am REALLY loving that thing. That's what's making me jones for another EBMM, hence the question about the Luke. I've never tried one of those. I'm thinking I might want to try a Luke BFR or maybe even get a second JPX6. I need another guitar like I need another hole in my head.

Whats wrong with Basswood and Alder? Remember a lot of EBMM's guitars like the EVH/Axis, LUKE, Petrucci, Albert Lee are all (were in one case, but that guy is still using Basswood) signature models for world class players. Mahogany/Maple isn't all its cracked up to be either... I'll take the tone of my Axis over a Les Paul any day! Basswood tends to be a little cleaner and more articulate then Mahogany and has much better highs (IMHO).

The luke neck is lovely - takes a little getting used to if you been a baseball bat player previously - but with a little play in time is very comfortable. - I liken it to the big sofa in my barbers....

Yeah, I realize the HH AL is Mahogany... I think the RW neck and the Axis pickups play a lot into molding the tone of the guitar to be not as brittle in the high end as the LP or even as muddy sounding. It def has a darker tone to it then the Axis, but the Axis has a great well rounded tone that covers so much ground. I have an Axis Sport with an Ash body and love it as well. I think the Sport is the best sounding of all of them... it covers so much ground.
