You know, xshawn..., I was also at the spot that you are now, thinking "what the hell was EBMM thinking?" when they dropped this bomb on us, and if you had seen the guitar forums around the time of the appearance on the website, you would know how vocal I was about it. However, that was irrationality getting the best of me. I had a nice chat with Derek about it, and I'd like to convey some words from him that, though on a personal aspect between him and I, can shed light on and ring true to anyone who has concerns about this issue:

"I have spoken to Benji numerous times...I know he is humbled by the fact that he is with a company that has such an impressive list of Signature Guitarists...he does have a dedicated group of fans who like what he does and respects what he plays. He has had every guitar company around offer him signature models, and he has always turned them down. He likes our guitars for the same reasons you and I do. They're just simply great guitars...understand that this decision was made based on the fact that Benji loves our instruments and is very loyal. He has a tremendous amount of fans who want his guitar. Young girls and guys write in and ask how to get a guitar just like his almost daily. Benji wanted a signature guitar. Who doesn't? I can't blame him...attention and visibility on Music Man guitars has not been this prevalent since Eddie (Van Halen) was with us. This endorsement simply provides more exposure for the MM brand. Thats a good thing."

So, after reflection, my thinking is that these little cats that want to order up a BM sig get to the website, one step closer...good start! Not only that, but one of two things happen:

1. They get a BM sig, with the EBMM logo proudly displayed on the headstock. One less F***** out there on the streets; I can sleep a little easier at night. ;)
2. They look at the product list, and think, "you know, I could actually dig this JP, or SM, or Axis more than that...", and they end up walking away with not the EBMM that they were looking at, but an EBMM nonetheless. Either way, another one less F***** on the streets.

(we try not to use the F word around here...bad taste in your mouth. :p)

So, it's not what you'd expect to see from a company that has tendered to only the highest caliber of musicians in the past, but times change whether we want them to or not. However, if it will draw more into the EBMM family without doing absolute detriment to the company or its name, then I'm backing it.

Hope that sheds a little light on the subject, and that I can help you through this phase in your stance on the issue. I was there too. :)

Guess what? We are a business. The purpose of a business is to make money. It doesn't matter what you or I think about Benji, or Good Charlotte. It was a good business decision, and I am sure we will sell alot of those guitars.
