Hi Pablo...

It's my understanding that the Sabre Bass didn't appear untill 1979 (perhaps late 1978). That style Bass in the picture continued up to circa 1983 before the pickups and pre-amp switching changed. That of itself wont necessarily affect the value but rather the condition. It's hard to tell the condition of the Bass with such a small picture.

The Bass can be dated by having the neck removed...there's a date on the heel of the neck and also in the body pocket where the neck fits.

The serial numbers (found on the bridge) are prefixed with a "C"......for example C00xxxx.

I would ask the seller to confirm the dates or, at least, give you the serial number.

You've probably notice that the pickguard is missing.

Hello i`m back
hi, I'll get some pictures of the bass soon ,
I'd need to know if that series had manufacturing problems or something like that, and if it was a well sold series
it's a bass that collectors search for?
did you took out the pickguard or it never has one?

Nice! I like the white.

I have a '79 Sabre that appears to be originally white before it was stripped. I plan to refinish it in a vintaged Oly White and yours gives me all the inspiration I need to get it done.

I remember 10 years ago being on the verge of buying a mid 80's Sabre in blueburst with a clear plate and maple board. The thing was freakin gorgeous but I ended up buying a Warwick Streamer thru neck instead as I was wanting a real honky jazz bass tone at the time.Anyhow the warwick became a G&L L2000 in a deal which became a Sterling which became the Stingray I still have.

I still sometimes think about that Sabre....:(

i've never had a chance to play one of these, whyd they discontinue it? didnt sell?
I had a '79, recently, for about a year. Far as I can tell they are as reliable as any MM bass, but just were not successful with the buying public during their production life. I found it rather harsh sounding for my real needs. Good for jamming with noisy compadres, but I gave up that sort of noisy jam scene, and so I parted with mine. The store where I traded it for a Bongo said the Sabre was resold very quickly, a day or two, to a very excited buyer.

My sabre

Golem ...I have never found it harsh sounding , Its a true instument that requires a artist to keep control over what he is doing .
If you just pick it up and play , it just booms and it leaves you with a feeling of no dynamics .
Ive been playing since 1962 and lovin it .
My 2 passions other than the family .... the bass and telescopes.
A lot of people do not like the active bass's as they cannot get a grip on what they are doing other than pound on a bass.
Ive got/had a selection of bass's
Fender Jazz bass 76, 2 Hagstrom 8 strings ( one tuned in 5ths), a regular 4 string Hagstrom (over 40 years old now), A newer fender Squire Jazz bass, a Fender precision , a Da Armond Ashbory bass(toy).
I still like the feel and play the Sabre more than any of the others
It would not let upload a newer photo...whats with that .

Sabre

I'm selling an 83 sabre with a stingray neck if anyone fancies it.
It's GOT to go, so make me an offer.
