So on music man site says you can choose between - Standard - Music Man® strings-thru-the-body bridge of chrome plated, hardened steel with solid steel saddles; Optional - Music Man® vintage tremolo of chrome plated, hardened steel with bent steel saddles; Optional - Piezo bridge with solid steel saddles.

And my question is whats the difference between them an what can/cant you do with each of them.

hope this is not too stupid question, but i would really like to be sure before i decided to buy it.

Thanks

The hardtail and the trem are pretty much the same except the obvious (the trem will lower the pitch). They have the same basic design and feel the same. They are some of the best bridges around as far as stability and comfort. The also look great.

I havent seen a Piezo Silo so I cant comment on that one. Do you need/want a Piezo?

All good points above. I may want to add that the Silhouette trim will only dive. It's a wonderful design. I'm not sure if adding a Piezo gives you the same basic tremelo or not (if that's even a possible combo). I have a Piezo on my 20th Anniversary Silhouette and the tremelo on that guitar is the same as the tremelo on my Silhouette Special.

Hello and welcome aboard !

My experience with the Music Man bridge & tremolo :

  • on my Axis, there is a fixed bridge. The thru-the-body bridge gives you plenty of resonance
  • on my SUB, there is the tremolo. The factory setting is "dive-only" but you can adjust it in order to have "up and down" bends. This tremolo stays well in tune. I made the adjustment to have the "up and down" bends and I am happy with the result.
Now you have to know if you need a tremolo ...

Yep ... figure out whether you want a fixed bridge, tremolo bridge or tremolo bridge with a piezo (for acoustic sounds).

thanks for replies, it helps me a lot.

well, im between tremolo bridge or tremolo bridge with a piezo. Leaning more towards tremolo without piezo cos for the acoustic stuff i would probably prefer acoustic guitar.

thanks

The piezo is a fun option and will add some really cool tones when mixed in with the mag pickups on a clean setting. It does not get in the way of using the trem whatsoever. I have the trem with piezo option of my Silo Special, and I have it set up to raise the pitch slightly. It works perfectly fine and its really stable.

Hi Rockman:)

I LOVE my sil trems:D As mentioned, they come shipped to dive only. This is easily adjusted via the spring screws in the back. I have my trems set on all my guitars to pull up a whole step (at D on the G string-7th fret). My guitars are also equipped with piezos. The whole step allows me to use the trem much more effectively.

I did a video for the sil (I'm a Music Man Artist) a year ago and demonstrated the trem system. I believe that part of the vid begins @ 5:06. Here is the link. Hope this helps: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYna43scskw]YouTube - Don Lappin & The Ernie Ball Music Man Silhouette Guitar[/ame]

I like the trems even if they are blocked because the brass block and the springs and the extra routing add to the tone.

I prefer trems... I may not always use them (I don't even put the bar in my Axis Sport) but its nice to always have the option. These are not cheap-o trems so it doesn't kill your sustain or tone... piezo... get an acoustic unless you are going to use it live.

Warning...thread hijack.......

I'm getting ready for one of our Church performances...."Shout for Joy" by Lincoln Brewster, if you want to youtube it.....and in figuring out the intro, realized that I'm not able to play fast enough to keep up. I thought to myself...."how can I play faster", and remembered Don at the Guitar Center session said that this was exactly why he came up with the 2 hand tapping technique. I'm not good at it yet, but can tell you that on short notice, using only one left finger and 2 right, it works!!!!

How do i adjust it to have the "up and down" bends?

Hi paolo03! You have to adjust the trem claw by unscrewing it so that the tension of the strings will pull the bridge off the body. Of course do it little bit at a time and tune after each adjustment. You can adjust it to your liking.

I have trem in my Silho special, and it is amazing...

You can use it, and if you don´t want to be a tremolo guy sometimes, just dont put the bar and you wont notice it...
