Hi there,

I am new to this forum (joined about 5 minutes ago) and I am interested in buying my first Axis after I played one in a shop and it felt really good. I have an assortment of guitars including PRS, Strat's & Ibanez and all (except the PRS) have a Floyd Rose as I perfer this type of trem.
My question is that I have been looking at the AXIS and why is there one not made with the Floyd Rose and a piezo on the same guitar?
At the moment I am only looking at the AXIS but I quite fancy having the Piezo which is only available on the Super Sport but that doesn't have the Floyd Rose?

I hope that this isn't a dumb question and that I haven't missed the answer to this elsewhere.............

Many thanks

Eddie

the short answer is no you can't get one from EBMM, the long answer is you may be able to fit an after market piezo locking trem

If you're looking only into the Axis model I'd say that I never ever heard about a piezoed Floyd... ...but maybe that's just me...
Should you get the chance, try the Axis Super Sport and have the EBMM (piezo equipped) trem set to floating (like on a LUKE model). If everything is adjusted right, tuning should be as stable as on a floyded Axis.
I have just done some setup adjustments on my ASS and it is completely indifferent to dive bombs with the EBMM vintage trem and locking tuners. My trem is flat on the body though - not floating (as I like to rest my hand a lot...).
Try and see... :)

There isn't one yet. I want to say that Graphtech/Ghost is working on one, but it's still in the development stage.

So, no piezo system with a Floyd . . . yet.

The brand Beginning with I and ending in Z had something called the Double Edge or something similar which was a floyd with Piezos , dont know if they still make it though.....

That one isn't really that good. Not when compared to the EBMM bridges. The IBZ double edge acoustic sound tends to give the farting amp syndrome, and for some reason, can't be toned down... weird. PLUS, their controls are really not as simple. I almost got one until I realised it wasn't that good, and was difficult to use.

Then I found the EBMM JP6... heheheh...

Should you get the chance, try the Axis Super Sport and have the EBMM (piezo equipped) trem set to floating (like on a LUKE model). If everything is adjusted right, tuning should be as stable as on a floyded Axis.

The Luke with piezo is not set up that way. The bridge is set flat against the body to increase the pressure of the string on the piezo saddle. Supposedly, it doesn't work if the bridge is set to float like on the Luke without piezo.

The piezo cuts out if you use the trem when the piezo is on a little flutter is OK but once it gets to a certain point no more beautiful acoustic.

But why? I mean, it works on the Petrucci and that floats.

The problem with the Luke is that it does not float the same way. There is no routed area behind the bridge to allow the trem to pull the note up in pitch as there is in the JP. On the JP, you can float the trem and have the bridge parallel to the surface of the body. So, the strings can press down on the saddles.

On the Luke, the floating bridge is set up on an angle in relation to the surface of the body of the guitar. So, the strings won't press down on the saddles as well as they do on the JP or the piezo-equipped Luke.

Imagine taking the JP trem and diving down on the pitch 1.5 steps. That is how the Luke bridge is angled and set up on the Luke with no piezo. So, the strings will not press down on the saddles as effectively. It's as Larry said, that if you use the trem, the piezo won't work. Physically, that's the same thing as setting the Luke piezo bridge to float.

On the JP, the strings travel over the saddles in a direction parallel to the bridge. On the Luke with piezo, it's exactly the same, but to achieve that, the Luke with piezo is set up with the bridge flat against the body of the guitar.

Thanks

All

Thanks for your replies guys, I think I will probably go for the Axis and worry about a Piezo later. I don't want a signature guitar anymore and previously had 2 Steve Vai Jem's - I will be selling my 7BSB to get the EBMM.

Another thing I wanted to ask is has anyone else has the body routed out on a Floyd Rose guitar to allow for pulling up with the bar? I am currently using two USA Strats (Floyd Rose equipped) and had them both done by a local luthier, they have been done so well that it looks standard (similiar to my N2) with no paint chipping etc - this is what I will probably do with the Axis and just wondered if anyone else has done similar?

Cheers

Eddie

I've seen one person do it, and it was a total hack job. I wouldn't recommend it, but it's your guitar.

You can do an adjustment on the trem claw and set it to float a little. You might get 1 - 1 1/2 tones up in pitch. That's a good way to do it without damaging your guitar or reducing its value if you should happen to want to sell it at some point.

1. you'll like this better than the floyd...trust me
2. no need to mess around with routing to have it float and you wont destroy your new guitar
3. it has piezos!!!

trust me you'll like it

old thread but EVH used one EBMM with Piezo and Floyd Rose on Can't Stop Loving You 95 in Pensacola so EBMM has done it before, don't know why it's not available now.

Youtube compression probably takes away some clarity but look at 3:57, you can clearly see two guitar cables output
