Musicman Bass Pickup

I recently purchase a StingRay Bass With Bartalini Pickup.I'm not to happy with the tone that I have,it not deep enough for me.I was going to replace the bartalini pickup with the original style pickup. What would you guys recommend? I used a 100 watt Ampeg Bass amp.Now my Dean Bass, and My Precision Bass sound Better than My Musicman. Lou Love

I have an original MusicMan pickup that I will
sell if you need to buy one for your StingRay.
It is from a Sterling, but I believe they are the same.

Another note on the Bartolini...

Humbucker pickups have two coils.
You can wire the PU in 4 different ways

- Humbucker Parallel
- Humbucker Series
- Single coil, bridge
- Single coil, neck

From experimenting with my Bartolini, I've found that the Humbucker in Parallel mode gives very low output. If you feel OK using a soldering iron, you might want to try for the Humbucker series mode, or one of the single coil modes. You might find something you like...

If you want to try other after market alternatives I think Bassline (Seymor Duncan) offers MM replacement pickups that are closer to the original than Barts.

you also might wanna try out status, they just started making musicman replacements and I love all of their stuff. I've heard good things about their MM replacement.

Hi,
I've known a few people who fitted their Musicmans with Bartolinis and the reason for that is they wanted a growly funky sound. Obviously the "Musicman sound" character is going to dissapear.
I have a Musicman SR 4 fitted with a Seymour Duncan Basslines preamp only (I didn't get the Seymour Duncan pickup) and I rewired the pickup in series (it comes wired in parallel from the factory). I reckon it has become much more versatile and has more bottom end as well, take my word for it.

Bartolini makes 5 different models that are replacements for the Stingray 4 :
MMC - bright, smooth humbucker - strong lows and low mids
MMK - brighter humbucker - treble enhanced version of the MMC
MMX - brightest, but not harsh, humbucker - more treble and bass than the MMK
MME - bright, smooth triple coil design
MMEX - brightest, treble enhanced version of the MME

Which one is installed in your StingRay?

The same 5 different types are available for the StingRay5.
