Hello,

I am writing here because i have a problem with my Musicman John Petrucci Majesty 7-string that i bought as new from the USA (but it was shipped to Morocco). The guitar is buzzing a lot, even if i didn't touch the truss rod's settings at all. I saw on the FAQ on Musicman's website that it is possible to fix it by rotating the truss rod, but the problem is that i fixed it using this FAQ but on the against-clock way. So there is no buzz anymore but the truss rod is a little bit out of its place in a way that i can rotate it using my fingers.

Will the actual position of the truss rod affect the guitar or it is not a problem ?

PS: I do live in Morocco so i cant go to any guitar shops, plus no one is well informed about all this in here so that he can help me with it.

Thank you a lot. I am waiting for your answers.

Hmm. Well, first of all, don't panic :)

Secondly, check a few things: is the guitar in tune? Is the bridge flush with the body? (meaning does it look like the strings are pulling it forward or the springs in the back are pulling it back & up?) What gauge strings are you using?

Some of my initial thoughts are that the bridge may not be set up well, depending on the dealer. Can you post a pic of the bridge with the guitar in tune?

Because no - you shouldn't be able to turn the truss rod wheel with just your fingers.

The mods (God bless 'em) are gonna come on here and just tell you to contact customer service, so I'll second that as well. This way, though, solving this in the public forum, allows others to learn and benefit from your experience and ultimate solution. Besides, CS is just gonna trouble shoot with you as well and all failing will just have you ship the guitar back to them :)

So yea - provide us with a bit more info and we can help you better. Good luck! Sorry it wasn't the instrument of the gods mine was when I opened mine. But it'll get there :)

It's always hard to say without having the guitar right in front of you.

In general, if you have buzzing on the lower frets, you need more relief in the neck, so adjusting the truss rod counter-clockwise is the thing to do. It's not really a problem if the rod is all the way loose, but you generally don't have to do that.

If you have it set up and there's no buzzing now, mission accomplished and you're all good. If you don't like the setup, take it to a good shop/tech. (I know you said no one there is informed, but really- every electric guitar has a truss rod and saddles, so setting this guitar up isn't really any different than any other guitar.)

If you're concerned about the neck (which I wouldn't be, since it sounds like you have it set up correctly), you can contact the customer service folks. Keep in mind that thare's only so much they can do- you'd have to send them the guitar to get a more specific answer.

The difference being, of course, that after you get this guitar set up, you now have yourself a well-set-up EBMM guitar :)
