These crazy little necks on my Axis and my ASS have ruined me on my other guitars. If I grab any of my other guitars, it just feels clumsy and uncomfortable playing it (with the exception of my LP Studio Lite, which is similar in profile, just wider). The MM neck just rests perfectly in my hand, and I get no fatigue playing them hard for 4 sets easy.

Think I'm going to be doing some serious guitar selling here in a couple of weeks, since I'm way past the honeymoon with these MM guitars and they are my favorites for everything but Zakk/Sykes stuff which is the LP's specialty.

It's definitely the neck, cause I never cared much for the body style when EVH came out with in '90.
Funny how the playability of a guitar can make a guitar look more appealing-I am pretty fond of the style now.
The pickups are killer, too. Perfect blend of quality, sound, and playability.....Thank you, Mr. Ball!

With regards the LP tone your after i would recommend you try the new JPX or the BFR JP models.

But it's a good thing.

I haven't tried the HH AL yet, but the 25th/Reflex should do that oh so beautifully!!! ;)

I would, but my LP Studio Lite works for the LP stuff. It's much lighter than a LP standard or Custom, yet has the ebony board and LP sound plus a neck profile very similar to my MMs. I'll check out the JPX anyway, tho. Always have more GAS in the tank....:D

- I was always a Gibby man - played mt Les Paul since '73.
Since 2005 I discovered the EB Albert Lee and haven't played anything else since.

A local musician here in Cardiff - an avid LP player has "discovered" the Axis and is now a convert. To me, and it's my opinion, The Les Paul will always be an iconic guitar but things have moved on - I want a guitar that has wide tonal variations with a neck to die for (the subject of this thread) and for me EB guitars meet these modern criteria.

Yeah EB necks have ruined me too!!

It's wierd. I usually don't like shallow wide necks (think Ibanez) But the JP6 is perfect. At first I notice it is a bit wider and a bit shallower. Sort of in between an Ibby and a standard C shape.

When I grab it to pick it up , a little voice in my head says , "Oh, yeah":D

I love the neck on my JP6, but i would go so far as to say that it's spoiled/ruined me. I still love the feel of my Ibanez' and Strat, equally. Sure, their all different, but they are all beautiful in their own little way.

I have always said that Music Man necks are the best in the business. It's definitely what attracted me to the guitars, and what keeps me playing them.

I have owned more LP's, Strats and PRSi through the years than I can count. I had never picked up an EBMM until my Axis arrived yesterday. Let's just say I'm absolutely blown away by everything about this guitar and especially the neck. "Hi, my name is Jim and I'm am axiholic."

Without a doubt the neck on an EVH or Axis is my all time favorite feeling neck. I really wish the Petrucci had just a little bit more thickness and I would own atleast 5 of them and probably never have to buy another guitar again in my life. Well that would be a lie, but I think the body shapes do not get as much recognition as they deserve. Just about all the models have great bodies and I personally love the body shape of an Axis or EVH and think it is a modern classic considering it is now in its third hybrid form with Vanhalens latest guitar. But it all comes back to the original EVH which to be honest, I really do not know how much actual input he had in the original design or who at EBMM was the real brainchild behind that one.

The two best necks I have played on are my Gibby LP Std+ (asymmetical like an Axis) and my old Ibanez S5470 (very similar to a JP6), and the neck on my JPX 7 feels like a mixture of the two.
