Hi there- I have this lovely Musicman Standard from 2009 on the way and can’t wait.
Just had a question about pickguards.
As I am going to be replacing my strat with this- I really want to convert it to a SSS guitar. I know there are the special versions but I love 24 frets.
My question is - the older Silhouette 24 feet models on Pickguard planet have an SSS configuration with 6 bolt necks and fixed tremolo, will this fit mine?
The pickup spacing is the same.
If anyone has experience in pickguard swaps on these 24 fret models in particular that would be great!
BUT the good news is that if you feel comfortable with hand tools, you can reshape the pickguard to fit around the bridge.I have a pickguard coming myself in the next few days that will require similar work. I'd start by taking the old pickguard off and removing controls. Masking tape on new pickguard and using the old pickguard as a template trace the shape onto the masking tape. Use needle files, card scraper or razor blades, and/or sand paper on a dowel or block.
If some of the screw holes don't line up, you can just redrill a new pilot hole if there is no overlap with the old holes (I like the tiny manual drills that modelers use, super accurate and easy to use) other wise you'll have to plug them first. It's totally doable and you'll have an awesome guitar. It's also the kind of work a good luthier can do if you don't feel up to it.
I’m not too worried about the bridge all that can be remedied- just as long as the guitars bodies are the same size and shape relative to the pickguard
Looks like 24 fret models share the same sizing regardless of the year!
