Hello
Could someone who's familiar with MusicMan SUB basses tell me if the bridge has the MusicMan Logo on it, i've only ever had one quick look at a SUB and I didnt see the logo (although I could be wrong). I thought it was wierd, it looked just like a OLP bridge.

Thanks

Ed

yeah I looked there too but I'm still have a feeling that the ones I saw didn't have the logo! Next time I go back to the shop I have a good look.

Cheers

It is surprising of MusicMan, I think its just an OLP stingray with MusicMan on it and a lick of paint on the neck (OLP's are very good I find). It's a good bass in itself but not up to musicman standards

I didn't think so, thanks for confirming.

Does this mean that it's not at fully musicman bass, and that tuners, bridge, electronics and stuff are not made by musicman ( the same stuff as on an OLP???) and are just slaped onto a musicman body and neck? If these parts were musicman, it would just be a stingray with a painted neck textured finish and aluminium pickguard and therefore not leaving much point in it being called a SUB. So could the "Americain Made Bass" not be entirely true to it's name?

Obviously I could be wrong but it's seems the logic way for ErnieBall to bring the price down.

That photo kinda looks like one with writing on it but only to blurry to distinguish properly, but i can't make it out. Where's the photo from Rod?

Thanks

Ed

PS Is this blurry writing or not????

I can't stand the finish on the neck and the very rough finish on the body. If I got a SUB I would have no choice but to sand off the neck finish at the VERY least and slap some oil on it.

It does SOUND different then the OLP, and I really do like it more other then that damn neck paint. Although I did try an Elm bodied OLP MM3 that sounded great (might be my backup to my SR when I get the cash!). Still, the SUB is a little pricey. For $150 CND less then a 2 band SUB I can get a G&L Tribute 2500 which IMO is a better bass, even if it wasn't made in the USA. It uses USA electronics and hardware, meaning the same stuff that goes into the US G&Ls!

I checked out the SUB properly and none of the hardware appears to be MusicMan. (No Logos on hardware) Still ,a nice bass apart from the painted neck, not the same ((quality)) hardware as on a proper musicman, I find.

A guy who likes the SUB

I am the proud owner of a Passive SUB XO2.

Yes, I am a new bass player (I've only played for a year and then I stopped, but I'm picking it back up again), but after all the basses I looked at in my price range (I only had 600 dollars and all the used items I found weren't too good) and I really loved the SUB.

I live in Ohio and I checked out every music store I could and in al reality I liked the sound of the SUB the best. Whenever I look for an electric instrument I always try to find something that sounds good even without an amp and this did do that. I really don't mind the painted neck, sometimes I really enjoy that little aesthetic feature, but then again I always did enjoy dark colors.

Oh and I do believe the hardware is one of the reasons for a cheaper bass. The Warwick Rockbass line also had cheap hardware on them to keep costs down. But overall the quality is still very nice. I chose the SUB over a line of Fenders because the only P I ever enjoyed was my late fretless that my uncle now has.

I finally replaced my Fender jazz bass with a black SUB several months ago(I'm a guitar player that also loves to play bass), and I found that the SUB was just as good as the Stingray to my ears(a great funk bass). I did a head to head comparison with my friend's 98 teal colored Stingray. My only hesitation with the SUB was its quirky textured finish that I wasn't so into at 1st...I tend to buy my instruments more for sound than aesthetics or looks, so the SUB is really a steal at 1/2 the price of a stingray. I haven't had any problems with the stock tuners, bridge, or hardware on my SUB. I really like the metal pick guard! This bass seems like it's built like a tank. I suppose I could have looked into used G&L's that would have been similar in price to the SUB(I own a G&L George Fullerton strat that rocks & I appreciate G&L's too), but this bass really impressed me. It sounds and plays wonderfully. I'm 100% satisfied w/ my SUB bass, and I'd recommend it to any bass player that is on a budget, yet still wants a nice sounding American made instrument.
