MXPX Stingray

I own a Trans. Teal Stingray that was owned by Mike Hererra of MXPX. He signed the back of it. But what I am looking for is if anybody knows where I can find pictures of him playing it. MXPX was the band that got me playing stingrays, and that was about 7yrs ago. But any help would be good. Thanks, J

That's him. I've always thought his bass tone was interesting. I saw MxPx play at the Warped Tour in 2000. They put on a great show. However, I can't remember if he was using that bass at the time. By the way, "Chick Magnet" was one of the first basslines I learned!

I set up the bass in that pic...have done several for Mike...I also have one of those pickguards that I use as a lightswitch cover in my shop at home...the hole for the pickup is the same size as the switch

You bought it off eBay didn't you? I was gonna sell my bass to buy it, but I decided to keep mine instead. Now I sold it to buy a Stratus Blue Sparkle Ray. Man. If you ever decide to sell it, gimme a heads up, I'll glady pay a pretty penny for a Stingray that was owned by Mike Herrera. He is my inspiration when it comes to playing with a pick and MxPx is my favorite band.

Does Mike have a custom set up? If so, what is it?

On some of his basses its just direct...no volume or tone pots hooked up...the pickup is wired straight through to the jack

My MXPX Stingray

No, none of the ones pictured are mine. Mine is an older one, like around early mid 90's one. It has a 6 bolt neck, with the stringmute bridge. It has the chrome battery cover, & Levenson style trussrod. It was used to record Pockinatcha, and I guess some of the earlier stuff. The guy who actually got it from Mike, traded his "special ordered" Stingray, it was a reddish brown color with a pearl guard. This one is autographed by Mike in 98'. I have pictures of it if interested in what it looks like. Thanks, J

Also, No I did not get it off eBay. Here is how it was obtained. MXPX had played some shows with a VA punk band called Vroom. The bassist Jim, was a friend of mine. He traded basses with Mike. The bass was then sold to my friend Dan. Dan got it somewhere around 1998, Jim got it in the mid 90's (96?). After playing it while Dan owned it. Just recently he decided to sell it to me, b/c he knew I liked MXPX and I liked the bass. So he traded it for my 1979 Precision Bass. The bass was Signed by Mike in 98' at the 9:30 club in DC(which is where I am from). It says Mike Herrera MXPX 98' with a Skull and Crossbones drawn. We had gone backstage and met all them and got the signature. I am in the process of setting up a page for the bass. Also I have written MXPX's management about having Mike write me a letter saying he owned it and all that.

Weird. There was a Trans Teal Stingray that the owner claimed used to belong to Mike Davenport of the Ataris, that was given to him by Mike Herrera that was on eBay not too long ago. So Mike had more than one?

Im not sure how many he has...we have made alot of them for him..the last batch was only 2, but I have done at least 6 others in the last 2 years or so.

The one I had was an older one, not like the current production model. This one just seems to be a plain Ernie Ball Stingray in Transparent Teal. From the looks of it Mike added a Thumbrest to it, but it was removed. If you want to see pics my AIM name is XXNCROCKXX or TattooInfirmary

Going by the S/N website posted on the other forum, it says this one was made somewhere around 1993. Probly late.
