Just started learning guitar 2-3 months ago (even though I am 38) and am learning quickly. I decided I wanted to start out with a very good/great guitar instead of struggling on a cheap squire. My 1st choice was a les paul studio as I knew these were very popular and have seen them in the past. Bought it and a Gibson SG faded for my son as we were starting at the same time. While my son was happy with the SG (he LOVES AC/DC) I did not care for the paul. Heavy, not comfortable and sounded kind of dull. Back to GC to return for a different guitar. I tried out a Taylor solid body classic, standard AND custom and the custom was an amazing guitar, best out of all I have tried so I bought it. 2 weeks go by and I start reading up on these Ernie Ball guitars so I go have a look in the "platinum room" at my other GC in town.
Played a JP6 and was blown away by how comfortable it was and easy to play, and the sound was awesome as well. Returned the Taylor at $2200 and picked up a fully loaded, NEW in box JP6 in ruby burst with inlays, piezo and all. GREAT guitar and it was listed at $1940 but I got it out the door for $1850 tax and all. 2 weeks go by and I decide to try an Axis SS HH. Again, blown away and loved the hotter pickups. Brought that one home as well! To me, these EB guitars just kill the Gibson offerings, even the Les Paul standard (which I also tried out) and for the money I just do not see anything better.
I picked up a Mesa Boogie 5:25 and just love it. The JP has a nice tight sound where the Axis has great versatility from clean to all out distortion. My son is now digging the Axis for its size over the SG so we may be selling the SG. Just wanted to share my happiness with EB guitars!
