The one thing that I would curiously like to know if there is sense in pursuing...

I always liked the 25 dB boost that is on the F****r Clapton model. Is there any sense in wondering if that could be added to the AL? Is there room under the pg?
Am I just smoking crak?

The original inspiration is by buddy Pete's stage guitar:

There is room under the p/g for a preamp (I have one in my Morse for the piezo). So yes, you could do that. You'd also have to find room for the battery, which could also fit under there.

If you are looking for something in the guitar... i think EMG has a pot called "the afterburner" works active as well as passive(correct me if I am wrong), allthough I don't know how it works in passive mode. (since you would need some kind of Opamp to get an amplification and these only work with a supplied voltage.

I think the boost in a Clapton Strat is a mid boost, rather than a volume boost.

Correct, I had the EC Model a while ago.
It's not the same as a Boost pedal and you can adjust the mid boost to your needs while playing.

The mid boost was the actual reason why I purchased the guitar, but I just couldn't get along with the tiny frets and the weight of the instrument.
But the Mid boost itself made the guitar very versatile.

I sold the EC model rather quick and replaced it with a Luke II...

Personally, I'd opt for the external solution and grab a quality stomp box. True, the midboost on the EC Strat isn't exactly the same as SD's Pickup Booster... However, the Pickup Booster does have two settings for fattening up the tone as well - and it sounds very clean to these ears. If the EQ of the Pickup Booster isn't exactly what you are looking for, I'd just get a small EQ Pedal, like the MXR 6B EQ and shape the boost exactly the way you want it (which may be different than the EC boost). I know the MXR isn't true bypass, but I run all pedals in separate true bypass loops anyway, so that doesn't really concern me. Anyway, the MXR buffer is pretty transparent.

Cheers

I've owned 2 claptons. I would still own at least one if it had the piezo system that EBMM has. The AL has the great tone, piezo, cool looks, stay in tune that I want. just want that spin the knob boost. If you've never used one, you probably wouldn't know/appreciate what is brings to the table.
