I feel sorry for the fools that tried to compare a Sterling to a pre-EB Stingray. That just doesn't make sense. Keep fighting the good fight!

I just can't stand these people. Most of them never even touched a MM bass and they pretend to be MM experts. I've said this before: they are the kind of kids that visit guitar stores and ask the salesperson to try a SR or a Sterling, but the salesperson understand that they're just timewasters and refuses to let the try it. As you unerstand this has a very negative effect on their sensitive psychology.
