amen.

i have a buddy that's playing in a pretty mellow band right now but hes a big time metal fan and is always disappointed when he shows the band songs and they dont like it. i keep trying to nicely let him know that if he doesn't dig the sound, then he should probably move on to anotehr project.

like you said ..

What's kind of funny is that it seems the less I have liked the music in bands I've been in the past, the better I got paid!

Now, however, playing only for the Lord I am getting (and will get) the best pay ever! Plus I LOVE the music and the contribution I can make to it. :D

Jub, a word of advice as you walk down the musical path. You can get enjoyment out of any kind of music. You can learn something and improve as a player playing any kind of music in any situation. Even music you don't like. When I was in my early 20's, I had my head so far up my ass that I couldn't see what a good band I was in. All I knew was that we weren't playing fusion, but southern rock which I thought it was beneath me. I quit just as the band was taking off. Now I've got a day job I love, and only play in a band because I enjoy it. And you know what? I don't really care for most of the stuff we play, but the guys in the band are great. And my philosophy now is that if you can't have fun playing music, any music, you need to reevaluate your philosophy. I'm not saying don't look for a project that fits all your requirements, just don't get bummed if the one you're in doesn't.

Good luck and above all, groove to whatever you're playing.
