So my one dream, that I know will probably never come true, is to have a JP7 BFR with a burled buckeye top. Then while casually scrolling thru Twitter I see this post from Mr. Jason Richarson... I'm quite jealous I must say. Jason is the man though, he deserves it!

I'm convinced Jason is going to own more Petrucci's than Petrucci himself here soon! haha Bless him!

Hmm.. I heard putting new tops on guitars was impossible.... ;)

I'd actually love to see this, if I may ask, can you post the finish in this thread when it happens?

I'll try to keep it as up to date as I can, but that all depends on Jason Richardson. I follow him on twitter, so if I see something, I'll put it up here. :)

I'm excited for him. First of all, he deserves it. Of the new generation, Jason is one of the few to stay loyal to the EBMM line and I appreciate him for that. It doesn't hurt that he's top of his class of players! For what it's worth though, I wish these sorts of things would just be available to the general public. I'm so sick of hearing guys complain about not being able to get a music man as tricked out as these artist ones and unfortunately some have come to resent EBMM for it. I'm not in agreement with that takeaway but it is how a good deal of folks feel.

That is indeed a very nice piece of wood! It's for a JP15, and that made me think a bit... and I came up with an idea. Using that wood for the top (the shield bit, which normally has maple) of a Majesty. Translucent finish on that piece of wood, Polar Noir for the rest of the body...

Benji; I agree with you. As much as I would love to have a JP with a buckeye burl top, know I'll probably never have one, doesn't discourage me from playing their guitars. To this day still the finest guitars I have ever played! I still have a beautiful Koa JP7 to play till I can bribe BP into making one of these for me. ;)

Oh BP, I'm going to Disneyland in August with my family. ... How do I get one? If recommendation is find a comfy pillow and close my eyes, then I'm one step ahead of you.

Incredible. If we could order them that would be just great too. Congrats to Jason!

+1, and FWIW I agree with your sentiment that for better or for worse it's a shame the average Joe doesn't have the option to get tricked out models like artists do. I suppose some things just are the way they are, and it's not our place to question them. Still love EB and I'm incredibly stoked to get my JP15.

That top is insane !!

I don't know but, I think there's a growing demand on custom options/guitars. Carvin/Kiesel seems to be doing really great lately, even some ''small'' luthier get more attention. People want to make their guitars their own. Well, even if I like the JPs a lot, I'm on that boat, I need to express myself in my guitar, not just what I play. It reflects how people interact in the society, everyone think to be/want to be/are special and unique (everyone is by definition, but you know what I mean). IMO, the demand for custom options will still grow over the years and I wonder how the company that doesn't offer those options will stand over the time. May be Musicman will change their politic some day and have something like Carvin: basic model with wood, finish and hardware options. Anway, we'll see...

Mr. J,

I'll echo your post above.

I ***LOVES*** me some Music Man!!! I own something around 80 guitars, but it's the Music Man that I play 90% of the time and do my intermittent gigging with (am not in a regularly performing band, but I "sit in" pretty regularly) - however I do like to make the guitar "my own".

Reference the Spalted Morse thread here: http://forums.ernieball.com/music-man-guitars/61106-spalted-morse-now-so.html - I'd have been completely happy ordering it built that way "from the factory", but that wasn't an option...

And look how crazy people get photoshopping colors onto guitars - like the Dargie Delight Majesty thread here: http://forums.ernieball.com/music-man-guitars/61171-dargie-delight-iii-majesty.html

There's definitely demand there, I'm just hoping that it's economical for the EBMM crew to offer more factory customization so we don't have to keep doing this stuff ourselves and can put some of that money in THEIR pocket! :)

Wow! Whoever was involved in doing the body on that JP I have to give major 'Kudos' to as it is one of the coolest tops I have ever seen on a guitar, it almost looks like it has a finished design put on it. I understand where everyone is coming from on wishing they could have a custom build but this is the way the company has been run and whatever the reason Sterling is one savvy business man and on this issue has always stuck to his guns. On the flipside the JP because of the thin Shred neck is not a model I am crazy for and I would be ecstatic just to see it offered "once" with a chunkier neck. But keeping it real I have never seen a sig guitar offered in the combination of specs as the JP. You guys have the JP-6/ JP-7/ BFR JP/ JP-X/ JP-XI/ JP-12/ JP-13/ JP-15/ JP-Baritone/ and the guitar has been offered in at least 100+ finishes and tops an more coolofferings just about every year.

For the rest of us who have different models as our favorites it isn't even close to compare, but enough is done each year to make things interesting!
