I picked up a CD of original material this evening from a local drummer and singer/guitarist/songwriter who are looking for a local bassist to fill out a trio and for collaberation. This will officially be my first audition as a bassist. I picked up the bass about 9 years ago after playing guitar semi-pro for 20 years or so (still play guitar). I've done some writing and recording with my brother but we've always worked together - his material is outstanding! The material is interesting and it sounds like it would be an enjoyable gig. It's mostly groove oriented rock stuff. I live in a small town called Kingston across the Puget Sound from north Seattle in Washington state. These guys are looking for a small commitment in practice time (2 nights / week) and a couple of local gigs each month. It's a great fit for me as I am a family man with precious little time to spare these days. I'll be putting some time in this weekend to prepare.

I'm jazzed and I thought I'd share the vibe

I had an audition recently and it had been at least that long since my last one. I didn't get the gig, but I did improve my chops by learning so much of the music that the band plays. Good luck and I hope you pass the audition.

Well, after reviewing the music further I decided to back out. It wasn't bad. It just wasn't compelling for me. I'm a husband and father with a full time job and just don't want to commit time to something unless it really engaging. The material was fun to play but the music just didn't grab me. Oh well

Being in a band is a big sacrifice, especially if you will have less family time. You're doing the right thing if it doesn't feel right to you. Good discernment, sir!
