So, I guess now I can be an official member here. :D Got my first (used) EBMM Axis. and I love it! Neck is thicker than I normally like (small hands) but so narrow that it's not a problem. Very, very different from my old Jackson Soloist and BC Rich ST-III. Anyway, my only question on it is: how low can you get the action on these? I like it super low, but I don't want to tighten the trem posts too much. I don't know where they stop. :)

Anyway, what resonance and sustain this baby has. And, yes, I think it's stunning. As I said, it's used, but has that dirty mojo to it. I don't mind, although I do wish I could somehow clean up the neck a bit back and front. Oh well. Anyway, here she is:

Very nice, congrats!

There are some instructions in FAQ about cleaning and maintaining the neck. Murphys Oil soap (I like the pre-moistened towells) and paper towels to try quickly cleans well, followed by the Birchwood Casey treatment. Also, the EBMM Wonder Wipes will clean it up.

Thanks, Mike. I'll look into those for cleaning it up a bit.

Anyone else on setup advice?

Thanks!

So, I found my answer to string height in the FAQ. Yikes.

"String height should be determined by each player's individual playing style. To adjust string height, the guitar needs to be disassembled to replace, remove or add shims in the neck (not recommended for the inexperienced or faint of heart). Remember to always protect the finish around the bridge by holding it firmly while removing the tremolo springs. After assembly, start back at step one."

Nice, that's a great quilt! I really want an Axis haha.

I think you can use the EB Wonder Wipe Fretboard Conditioner to clean the neck. I think it's mainly made for unfinished rosewood fretboards, but it seemed to work on the neck of my JP. Just wipe it down and then wipe it off with a paper towel, but apply some pressure. I could be giving you really bad advice here though haha.

Yep that's because the FR trem is not recessed like you would see on a Soloist, so since you can't lower the bridge into the body you have to push the neck further out of the body. Even though you're used to huge frets and super low action, give yourself a few weeks to get used to the Axis and you may find that it plays great as it is. As a former Jackson Soloist owner, it didn't take me long to get used to the Axis and I'm loving it!

Congrats on the new axe!

Beautiful guitar. Love that top!!

Shims, I bought some sheets of maple veneer on ebay to use as shims for my guitars. $5 max for more than you will ever need.

Cool.

And, grr, I DID slightly damage the finish by lowering the trem too much. Not bad, but still....
