My first EBMM EVH...

is also my first guitar with a Floyd Rose.

I have a few questions regarding removing the Floyd Rose to clean it. Firstly I remember reading somewhere that it isn`t advisable to completely loosen the tension on the strings on a MusicMan as it can upset the neck bow. Surely this is a fallacy?

Also, is there any information, preferably video help on stripping a Floyd Rose for cleaning and then rebuilding?

The Whammy Bar is missing. Where can I find a replacement? Is the Axis Whammy Bar the same? Same thread?

I would be grateful for any help.

Welcome,

Don´t be afraid of nothing!
1.Put an piece of an old t-shirt under the trem
2.loosen the strings
3. remove the trem springs
4. remove the trem
5. Don´t let the guitar sit without strings over a long period but just to clean everything, it´s ok.
6. I don´t know of a video but if you´re afraid take pics and measurements as help
7. If you are afraid of any step - see a tech and give the guitar to him

thanks. How long is a "long period" a day, a week? I really need to soak the parts for a few days to rid them of the gunk.

I`ll get around to posting a picture eventually. Does anyone know when the first of these guitars was produced? On the Ernie Ball History page it says "1991 Edward Van Halen signature model is introduced at Winter NAMM, production starts later that year"

I`ve been told my guitar is;
DOB: 7/22/91
Doesn`t seem to add up?
