Hi !!!

Know finally iam a happy Stingray owner.

Iam 19 years old, poor school boy... and here in germany the Stingray are very expensive.

Ive bought a used Musicman Stingray in sunbusrt with maple neck, great condition, 2 Band elctronic, who is doing a grat job ! I really like the 2 Band ... it works very effectively and is simple.

Its my first ray, wow i love this sound !

My problem:

I play on a trace elliot halfstack.

I dont get this slapsound like on the videos on youtube... the olp sounds better on you tube thany my ray..

Maby i have to change the setting of the ray.

The Slap is ok, but the pop isnt so tight.
I allready put new Strings on it, but it didnt eliminated the problem.

I dont know i really want a great slap tone..
Maby I have to drop the g sting on the bridge ?

Thats makes me rally disappointed = (

Hop you guys can help me !

Check the FAQ at the homepage to make sure the bass is set up right. Start with the settings on the bass flat, center detent.

Or take it to a shop to make sure its set up right..

How do you have the knobs on your bass set?

Glad you found the issue & that you're sufficiently slap-happy. For an even more aggressive sound (since you've indicated you're into that), have you tried cutting the mids a bit on your Trace's eq?

if i cut the mid on the trace the sound would be more agressiv.

But i like the sound without cut mids.. mids gives fundament.. i like the fingersound.. strong and with the stingray "klack".. and great slap

2band sounds fat

And once again the forum saved the world! :D

BTW, I set the bass to 0% (no boost) and the highs around 50% (neither boost nor cut) on my 2 Band SR. But regardless of the bass I played, I've always had a hard time to get a good sound from a Trace Elliot amp; flat it's too much midrange, and with the contour (middle cut) on it sounds nice but I can't hear myself at all in the band context.

If you can, check out some different amps. Maybe you can get something with better sound by trading/selling the TE.

Domini , Stingrays sound great through anything, they really do. I have an el cheapo Peavey practice amp I use at home, and my Stingray sounds just fine through it.

But my preferences are Ampeg and Markbass

I'm sure you've heard of and played the Ampeg, but since the Markbass is fairly new, next time your in a Guitar Center, check out a Markbass Little Mark II, after you get over the initial shock of the tone...... pick the Little Mark II up and hold it, and be shocked all over again.

How about your 3 band Rays, how you got the knobs set on them?

3 Band are generally flat. But I do add (+10 %) or remove (- 25 %) the treble depending on the song. Also, depending on the bass original sound, I sometimes like to add just a dash of bass, really just move it out of the center to the plus side. I never touch the mids, but I like they're there in case I'd need them in a live situation with a crappy amp, and I like that the 3 Band EQ gives me center positions.
