This maybe should be on the guitar side, but I do not feel comfortable over there. It's a bit weird.

It's about kenny, the guitarist.
Being an epically funky awesome super guitarist, naturally, he plays....an Ibanez.

I have been trying to get him into the whole EBMM thang, which he seems interested. I've even looked around for one for him to buy. It turns out, that if he gets into...damn I can't remember the name...if he gets into this music school after A levels, his mother will buy him a guitar of his choice. He has narrowed it down to either:

a) BFR Axis.

b) Ibanez Jem.

He is leaning towards the Ibanez. I feel sad. The one he has is top of the range. It sounds incredible, don't get me wrong, but c'mon get your act together.

Don't brow beat the guy. If he likes Ibanez better, that's his choice. It is cool that he is open minded, but in the end people should play what they like and what feels right.

If he is open minded enough to try EBMM guitars, try the JP6 and the Silhouette.

PS, us guitar players aren't that weird...... are we???

His decision, they're both really nice guitars, but i'd have a musicman over a JEM or an RG because i don't like the neck profiles or how light the bodies are (yes, i prefer heavy guitars!)

I'd get a silo in white pearl with maple board, trem and piezo, replace the pickups with DiMarzio EVOS, and still have money to spare before buying a JEM... Just my 0.11 Bolivares Fuertes :p

The JEM has an alder body like the Silo, unlike the RG series which are basswood. Also I think I read somewhere that maple is closer to ebony in sound than rosewood.

Haha spot on Rob. I got a luke and the old RG has been heavily cased since.

If it's anything like over here, he'll regret owning a jem the moment he arrives at the music school haha... I know so many people that that worshipped jems, were accepted no various performing arts/musical institutions and then BAM, they are sold for any number alternative guitar brands.

While i will admit, in my experiance a lot of the institutions are big on something particularly jazzy, the ones that actually gig in addition to the theory, get Balls :D

If he really likes the jem style i would have though the JP6 a good fit... But if I was of to the Con or WAPA or GIT, i'd take a 20th Silo, all the tones of the rainbow :)
