I just took delivery of my Ernie Ball 6165 Stereo Volume/Pan pedal and I'm loving what it does.

The reason I got this pedal is to control the piezo.

Before I had this pedal, I used a stereo lead out from my Albert Lee guitar into a splitter box, which split the stereo signal into individual (mono) piezo and (mono) magnetic pickup signals. I was then able to run my Piezo to my AER acoustic amp and the SSS to my Mesa tube amp. This meant that I had to control the volume / mix of the piezo using the pot on the guitar.

Now I can take the stereo lead into Input B of the 6165 which then splits it the same as the splitter.

The 6165 can be used in two ways:-
1) As a volume pedal which will control the volume of the acoustic signal and mag signal together. i.e Swell the volume of both the AER and Mesa together - but not separately (just trying to spell it out so there's no confusion )

2) And the reason I got it! - on the left side of the pedal is a "Toe operated" switch which converts the pedal into a Pan pedal. In this operation it can cut out the SSS signal to the Mesa and so I just have the Piezo thro the AER (pedal up position), or vice versa, so I just have the SSS thro the Mesa(pedal down position).

The middle position is a mix of the two.

The 6165 is very well made and will outlive me!! The operation is so smooooth and I can't wait to try it out in a rehearsal space.

Anyways, gotta go and pack for my weeks holiday in Dartmoor (it looks like the rain has stopped, after falling for close on 3 weeks !!!) :D

- thanks for the free strings - got them yesterday!!

It's a family holiday - 15 of us in a big (expensive!!) farmhouse. Great countryside - great clotted cream teas.

Past experiences have been a lot of fun.

After which I am back serving Her Majesty.

It's all that I wanted (and more as it acts as a splitter).

That's the main reason I want one. I really like the VP Jr. but I need the stereo output option. It will take up a pretty big footprint on my board though, especially when I compare it the VP Jr., so I would likely move it off when I buy one. The other option would be to reduce the size of my rig but I'm too greedy to do that.

Howdy, Long time Ernie Ball fan, first time poster. I came across a busted 6165 pedal for the lofty sum of 22 dollars US, and promptly fixed the string issue. A nice find indeed. From what I understand, I can use this pedal as a straight volume pedal, or I can use it as a pan pedal. The pan function has me confused. Here's my setup. One Guitar (mono), two amps (each are mono). What I *thought* I could do was plug the guitar into Input A, then take the A and B Outputs and run them to each amp, click the toe switch to pan mode and be able to rock back to amp 1, and rock forwards to amp 2. This does not seem to be working at all - I'm getting a blend no matter what. So - am i plugging things in wrong, or would that perhaps indicate my string fixin' isn't as good as I thought, or some other malady? thanks! mr.twistyneck

Hi.
I'm stuck in a hotel at the moment with limited battery on my laptop. Search on my username because there is info I have posted showing all combinations of the 6165 pedal - everything it was designed to do and more - my power is fading fast!
