newbie here, ahoy!

I enquired after the availability of the mahogany neck Axis with a UK dealer and there was no reply from the distributor. I managed to deduce they were extremely limited and only available through one US dealer, and they are not permitted to ship abroad, so the only way to get one was through a used example.
anyway, 'Fingbeagles' sorted me out and so I thought it worth joining in.

I was after more of a Les Paul feel from the evh, and wanted to get the evh back in the case as it is just too precious to be abused every day.
it got me that nasal midrange I was looking for, and now I have a Les Paul I can actually play in comfort.

here's a pic with it's sibling

thanks for the warm welcome
I feel I kind of know you all as I have been reading for a while, just not had an excuse to join in properly

the evh is indeed nigh-on mint, save for a few minor impressions on the rear
it came from a German owner, who posted it on eBay in such a way as to miss most folk's radar; I think the title was a bit obscure.
I had been looking for one for years, and seeing this one, I made him a private offer that made him take it off the market. he was not a real player as he really didn't know how rare it was, and I was not telling him either. he had gone to the store and bought it as he liked the look of it. I got it maybe 4 years ago, and it is virtually new still.
it ruined the quilts for me as I like the solid colours far better. I also missed out on a black one that went private, but this was big money as the seller knew what he had - lightning doesn't strike twice.
the evhs are so versatile and can cover anything from metal to jazz.

Keith,

you could not have been more open a seller, which made me comfortable with the transatlantic deal.

you know the koa, whilst ornate and interesting, I would prefer to be a solid colour. if there was a way of putting a static cling cover on it, I would. Heresy!
it is something to do with how I feel about playing a guitar, and the less ornate it is, the more comfortable I am digging in as I then don't worry about it losing that perfection. still, it has the tone, and I'll settle into it.

btw, here is the rig I talked about
I run only one amp at a time, and the pair of cabs, the rest gives me options to grab.

I must say, lordy! What a set up!

What processors you have runing behind the Koa?
it is a pile of gear, although it looks more than it is. the opposite is true of the rack
to play out, the footprint is the 2 vertical cabs, then the rack on them, with head on top
the rack has a deep drawer and carefully chosen shallow units, so there are rear mounted compressor and delay
the front is the intellifex, mod pro, pedal drawer - whose contents change with the wind(!) - and the mixer/switcher which is the brain and does everything including amp channels
I generally only use a little delay and 'verb, but all the options are there if anything special is called for.
