That's really sweet man!

I'd love to see a Honeyburst/Rosewood dual humbucker version with a black p/g! That would be bitchin I think!

I can see where my summer money is goin...

Nice! But it looks like the neck H is unadjustable! :p You know, with news of this new line-up, I think I'll have to skip the EBMM Open House and spend my money on a SR 4 HH or SH! :D

A StingRay should only have one pickup. A jazz bass two. A sabre two humbuckers. Either something is original or it isn't.

Sorry to be blunt, but that's rubbish.

There's the tonal possibilities for a start. Now you can have all the things you like about a SR, AND MORE.....

I'm sure the peeps at EBMM have done their research & feel this is a worthwhile addition to the stable.

I hate to say it but a small part of me agrees w/that load of crap.
The SR4 is a classic and I will retain my original single pup versions.
IMO, I would prefer the SR4 be left alone & the new 2pup versions
be a different bass or called something different. That being said,
I think it's great of EBMM to offer new tonal possibilities . . My Sterling
& SR5 may get upgraded, but I can't bring myself to upgrade my
original, classic, Ernie Ball MusicMan StingRay . . sniff sniff

You boys make me giggle. Look, I'm old. I bought my first Stingray in the late 70s. I can be stubborn, and my motto is:

"Change is bad."

But really. Given the response I've seen here and on other forums, this is a welcome addition to the classic lineup. SLO is not going to be able to make 'em fast enough.

If you want old school, buy one with a single pickup - or do what I'm doing: keep the one you have. But a lot of people, including Lord Bongo, are pretty excited about these changes. I think this has been a really fabulous time to be a bassist, really, with the debut of the Bongo and now this.

Last night, I was reading Kurt Vonnegut and thinking, "I'm so glad I get to be alive at the same time Kurt is." I feel the same way about being around to have one of the first Bongos and seeing the changes at EBMM.

Good morning, fellow bassists!

I can understand that some players might not want anyone messing with the Stingray and would prefer the 2 pickup model be called something else.

I can also hear the other group, who would say "What's the deal with this new SabRay? It's just a Stingray with 2 pickups.. who are they trying to fool?"

So, either way SLO takes a shot. ;)

Jack is right on the mark. These are just other options that will be available if you want them. EBMM has just expanded the possibilities with their "custom" production basses. I don't hear anyone saying that the coupe and convertible versions of the Chevy Corvette should have different names. There's an old saying: "Variety is the spice of life."

I just think it's ridiculous that anyone is getting hung up on a name. I mean, I have seen people who won't play a Bongo because it's called "Bongo." How weak-minded do you have to be to oppose something because of the name? Do you hear the name during the tune? Does the name affect the tone?

I'd play Bongos if they were called the MusicMan PickleButts. But, then, I have this bad habit called "critical thinking."

The same goes for the Stingray. It's one of the most recognizable bass names available. Why hamstring yourself by calling a 2 pickup Stingray something other than a Stingray when name recognition is one of the selling points? As far as I know, it's still going to be shaped like a Stingray and it'll still have the Stingray neck.

I could maybe understand the opposition if EB phased out single pickup Stingrays. But, as those will still be available, I don't see the harm. Why design another new instrument from the ground up less than 2 years after releasing the Bongo (an instrument designed from the ground up) when what people have been clamoring for a 2 pickup Stingray or Sterling?

To say that a Stingray "should only have one pickup" is shortsighted at best, and just a bit insulting to BP and the good folks at EB/MM. You only like Stingrays that have one pickup? Fine--only buy the ones that have one pickup. But, other than that, I think I'll defer to BP's judgement on this one. After all--if he decides that Stingrays should only come in satin pink, guess what? That's all you're going to be able to get...

I'm personally not a Chevy guy but I figured that more people could relate to them than could relate to Acuras. :p

I was going to make a reference to the car industry in my rant, but I thought it was too long as it was.

But, since you brought it up...

How many different body styles/engine redesigns/etc have all carried the name "Corvette?" Or, "Mustang?"

I mean, this is a Chevy Malibu:

And, this is a Chevy Malibu:

So, why get hung up on a name?

Im of the same thoughs as Mr. Monkee, Bongo frankenstiener.

Lets not disrespect BP and the other folks in R&D at EBMM.

First off, they have been cool enough to hook us up with some crucial info WAY before these new basses are to be debuted. Not to mention that they are releasing new models that many have been waiting years for. So what if the StingRay has only had one pickup since 76. As long as thats still an option, there shouldnt be any issues.

If youre not into a two pickup StingRay or Sterling, its a fairly easy deal. You dont have to buy one, or even show interest in them.

I on the other hand, and chomping at the bit to see all that BP and others have up their sleeve with these new models.
