My Only Sterling Concern...

Hey Fellas,
The only thing I'm concerned about on my new Sterling is the unfinished neck. Have any of you had any problems with your SR's or Sterlings necks,dirt?warping?
Why dosen't EB finish them?

They are finished. It's a wax/oil finish that protects the wood from moisture.

Yes, it gets dirty. But then I clean it. Once every six months or so.

The neck on my SR is rock solid. I hardly ever need to tweak the truss rod.

I have had my bass 6 months no problems just do like they say wash your hands before you play and put the bass back in the case when your not play and youll be fine. My neck isnt warped nor dirty. And they do there neck the way the do because your dealing with high end stuff and laquar necks arent high end and are no were near as fast as EB finishing style. I wish all my necks were finished like my EB.

dont worry. search the forums for oil and wax info. people have asked and got answers on how to "take care" of their EB necks.

ive had my sterling for 4 years and have never cleaned it and it rules (ok well, jon pimped it for me but that was just recently).

Had no problems with my SR5 sice I bought it new in dec 2004.

i second this motion. I was playing all the basses at my local shop. and ewww. Fender p and j basses. Rickenbacker. No match.

The only problem I have with the neck on my Sterling is that it makes the necks on all my other basses feel like crap!

I like the neck not so much for how quickly I can change positions, but rather for the accuracy with which I can move along the neck without having to look at it. This really helps if you're singing. I think it has something to do with a more consistent feel than laquer-finished necks. Your hand doesn't get stuck or drag as much. Most of the stuff I play (blues and classic rock) doesn't require speed. Of course, JMHO and YMMV.

I know what you mean. On my sterling i dont really have to look at the neck much at all when making transitions, although i do sometimes when i have nothing better to look at. I probably will be singing backup vocals soon in my band and i think this will help then.
