My Silo Special is still too Bright???

ive recently wired a seymour duncan sh-11 to the bridge which is said to be great for bright sounding guitars but its still too bright and i have a 500k pot as volume?
so should i change the volume back to the 250ks?
im hoping this would be a warmer tone?
any ideas guys?

Some good info from a buddy o mine...OLD MAN TELE
general "rule-of-thumbs":

1Meg = very bright sounding
500K = bright sounding
250K = warm, vintage sounding

1Meg = bright HB...shrill SC
500K = warm HB...bright SC
250K = muddy HB, warm SC

HB = humbucker
SC = single coil

...the HIGHER the pot resistance value, the LESS high-frequencies are attenuated.
...the LOWER the pot resistance value, the MORE high-frequencies are attenduated.

TONE control pot value doesn't matter too much because the overall "taper" or "rolloff" can be 'adjusted' by simply changing the cap value.

I run a pair of bareknuckle rebell yells , and they are a high mid heavy pick up.

its an all maple neck silo so it's bright but i left the 250k pots in and dont find it muddy at all, its a real hot rock tone.

id say try the 250 pots

Try a Custom5. Like a '59 but more power. It's like the regular custom with Alnico magnets which should have less high end than ceramics..

The Custom Custom is a very thin sounding pickup to my ears.

I would try 2 things,

1st, change the saddles to solid saddles, they really warmed mine up acoustically.

2nd, if that doesn't work and you wanna keep the pickup, fit a 250k pot.

It's worth trying heavier strings, e.g. try 10s instead of 9s.

I have a Dimarzio Air Zone with 500k Ohm pots in my HSS SS. A few other pickups I tried were a bit bright for my tastes. The Air Zone complements the SS well for a more fat, classic sound.

Deano - sorry if I missed you doing this but did you change the saddles??

Pure nickel strings can take some of the edge off, very simple change but it sure won't hurt anything. Easier on the frets too.

Definitely try 250K pot first. If that does not work for u I strongly agree with the Air Zone! It is an amazing pup...very warm and fat but tight at the same time for some nice heavy rhythm stuff. I have this in my Silo Special with fast track middle and cruiser in the neck with 500K pots. I also suggest the solid saddles and the nickel strings are great too. Still need that video my friend hehe.
