My Silos up against any other brand... EB WINS

So i was in a discussion last night with a family member whom also plays guitar (and quite honestly he makes me look silly) and he was telling me that he just did a "MAJOR" gear change. I was hoping that he was going to say he saw the light and went to EBMM but he went from G****n to F****r and he was saying that he got a 1968 stratty and a custom shop... and all the while i'm thinking i bet my Silos not only sound better but i bet they play better too...

anyone ever have a similar conversation with a friend or family member and have similar thoughts about your EBMM sounding and playing better?

When I got my FIRST EBMM, it was a Silhouette in Vintage Sunburst. I went to go jam with my friend who is an awesome player and gave me few lessons when I first started out. He is old school 80's rock fan, so he's got a nice Les Paul with EMGs and also got himself a $5K custom shop fender HSH with trem. He was under the impression that there is nothing better than a Gibby and a (B)ender...I guess that 80s nostalgia. I came over to his house with my new Silo and when he saw the guitar's fit finish and started playing, his exact words were "man, you f****d me up" hahahaha. So yea, after that we ended up going to a Petrucci clinic at DuBaldo's a few years ago, and he was eying a Pearl Redburst JP .

i knew i wasn't the only one... LOL!

i was a strat guy for quite a long time and thought it was the be all end all (and yes they are great guitars- so not bashing) but once i got my hands on the Silo it was a whole new ball game for me.

I agree I just sold an American Deluxe Tele with $300 Lollar pickups and my Luke destroys it in both tone and quality. Had the big G and several Fdrs and EBMM is where I'll be staying for good!

Interesting you should bring that up. I bought my first EBMM a few weeks ago - It's a Steve Morse model. I've been playing it exclusively for a number of reasons: 1) I had to get used to the nuances of the switches. 2) tommyindelaware set it up for me, so it's dead perfect 3) after the TiD setup, i had no desire to play my "LP" guitar.

Last night, I blew the proverbial dust off my LP and sat down to play it.... I'm not joking or exaggerating.... it. felt. like. a. toy. The pickups that it has that I was so proud of, sounded muddy and actually a bit fizzy. It lacked dynamics, and lacked character... mind you - this was my FAVORITE guitar that I've been playing out weekly for the last 10 years!

I can't put my finger on "what" makes the EBMM experience so nice, but I don't think it's really any one thing. From inception to finished product. I can't imagine a nicer instrument - I sure as heck haven't found one.

First off congrats and welcome aboard. secondly... great choice in instrument as i've had my eyes on a Morse... gotta wait for the right time and to have Tommy set it up for you... that is money.
I had a custom one off strat that was my baby for close to 4 years. It was spot on to what i (thought i) was looking for tone wise. It was identical to Claptons strat electronically and body... but had a thicker beefier neck unfinsihed and just played the heck out of it every weekend. But after i got my silo i didn't touch it for months. Picked it up and just couldn't play it as well as i did my silo and the tone wasn't right for me anymore...

for me i also noticed that my playing improved as well after i got my silo(S). I liked my first one so much i went out a few weeks later and bought a second. and that's all i play.

I have a good friend that plays so well I can’t believe he never pursued anything guitar related after his band days were over. His collection of 15+ guitars from all the high-end manufacturers blows away some stores entire stock.

He’s played 2 of my old Axis guitars and just loved them. When I told him about by new Axis less than 2 weeks ago he had a lot of questions for me. I gave him all kinds of links and pics and asked him whats up. He said he was looking into getting one and specifically asked about Purple.

I gave him links to 2 Purple BFR Axis’s for sale in the Toronto suburbs. Time will tell.

if i were to pull the trigger on a Morse (at this point)... i'd have to get rid of one of my silos... which i have a hard time doing as they are serving me very well and i'd hate to let an EB go... if it were a f or g it'd be up on craigslist right now... LOL

You know thats funny, after getting my Luke, i have only found 4 guitars that i can play other than that and they are Silo, Silo Special, Axis and AL. Everything else just seems lame (to me).

When I hold any other guitar, it feels awkward and weird. I also lose the ability to actually play, because my mind, fingers and hands are trying to figure out what the hell I'm holding and how to make any sense of it. I'm not joking either...I went to jam with my friends in a studio, and of course my buddy with his Strat wanted to switch guitars for fun...wasn't fun for me at all actually. He wouldn't let go of my Ball, and I could not stand playing that sticky bulky neck...it also went out of tune CONSTANTLY.

there's just something very special about the design and build of the EB guitars. I've yet to pick one up that i couldn't play. I have a friend that picked up my 20th (after asking to see it of course) and within 4-5 seconds he literally said "this IS quality" and passed it right back.

I was at a GC once and there was a young man looking at a custom 24 fret guitar that was a nice guitar and i passed him a 25th and said before you drop the cash on that... at least consider this... his eyes opened up soooo large and was really diggin it. I couldn't have praised the EB guitar or company anymore... but he was dead set on the Custom 24 because his guitar hero played on... even though he liked the 25th more... which i found funny... but he was a young buck and he got a glimpse of the 25th...

I wouldn't say that my Albert Lee is "better" than my PRS McCarty, just different. I do like it better than my PRS Hiland (which is for sale, btw).

I feel the same way, I can't play anything else anymore. Different EBMM models have very different necks, but there's always something about them, no matter what model, that just feels right. I like the JP neck the best, but I love the others too.

Well my friend Mike who owns the store I hang out is an ace player and tech, who owns over 60 guitars but never had an EBMM. Well the last two years that I have been shelved and not able to play, he also has to crank up and rip on any new guitars I buy so I know they are keepers. Well the last three times he called me to come in and check out what he bought just happened to be 3 Balls, a Silo and 2 Lukes and I can tell he has been bitten.lol Also one feel good moment happened a month ago as I had dropped of my 2 EVHs T-Gold and T-Pink for a setup after the winter, and when I came to pick them up he was telling me that he had the cases open and the guys that were in the store were drooling over them and forming a little crowd. I laughed but it sure felt good.

I don't argue "best" or "better" on brands. That's all purely subjective. I may tell them that I think EBMMs are the best I've come across based on also having or have had Gs, Fs Charvels, Dean, Kramer, PV, PRS, GKG......etc

But I won't argue about it.

It's like a lot of things. You don't know how good something is until you actually experience it.

If they don't agree it's b/c they probably have never played an EB

I'm in the same boat.

I love my Silo, and it's my favorite 'tool in the toolbox'. At the same time, a wonderfully designed and crafted multi-tool with a knife, screwdrivers, file, saw, awl, pliers, and wire cutters, with a ruler laser etched along the sides down to 1/64th measurements is great, but not when you just need a hammer.


I have my EBMM multi-tool, and I have my hammers.

Knowing a guy who owns his own guitar building/repairing business , I get to see and play a load of guitars- old fenders/gibsons/Gretsch etc etc, and new - and I can honestly say that I haven't played one that I would swop my Albert for.

Guitar Evolution does not seem to be apparent in the minds of followers. The 2 icons are absolutely dated.. The G icon more so than the F icon.
I was one of them... Didn't look at anything else.. Wasn't interested. Then I played a JP at GC..... I was enlightened. I sold the GLP and bought a JPX... I just sold my FS and bought a Silhouette.
I completely understand Guitar Evolution now. Put your MM in your cousins hands one day.. and watch the evolution process take place.
