Hi all. For those of you who remember, I´m the one who bought the 20th Anniversary Trans Black SR5 signed by Tony Levin at the charity auction on eBay about 10 months ago. For those who doesn´t remember:
Tony Levin signed Trans Black 20th anniversary SR5
Just wanted to write an update and let you guys know what is going on regarding that bass and my other SR´s.
I´ve used the trans black SR5 quite alot on recordings and I just love it (!!) but I don´t dare to take it out on the road because of it´s history. So I´ve managed to get ahold of another 20th Anni SR5 in Germany along with a fretless 20th SR5. So I now have three 20th Anni SR5´s. Fantastic instruments indeed. But that is not all since it seems that I´ve gone totally bonkers. I sold, along with some other basses I´ve had but not used much lately, my fretless 4-string Stingray and got ahold of a fretless 30th Anni Stingray (Thanks Bovinehost!!). That one arrived yesterday. Fantastic and MUCH better than the one that I sold. Wonderful tone. I´ve also bought a trans orange SR4 with matching headstock that I´ve set up with foam under the strings by the bridge. It does take too much time to do this on stage so I felt that I needed one just for this type of sound to avoid hassle when playing live. Sounds great.
So I´ve gone from four to seven Stingrays in less than a year. And all of them except the trans orange SR4 are anniversary models since I´ve had a 20th anniversary 4-string since -96 and also a fretted 30th anniversary that I also found in Germany awhile back. Three 5-string and four 4-string. Couldn´t be happier with my basses. Very versatile and I just love that massive but still very defined low end. I use a Höfner violin bass on recordings accationally for that flatwound 60´s sound but other than that, it´s pretty much only EBMM Stingrays these days and I have a feeling that it will stay that way. I have NEVER before been this happy with instruments that I have and use. So hats off to the folks at Ernie Ball. Great work, folks! Here are som pics:
