Steve Vai has just released a bunch of his albums sans the lead guitar parts! Today i downloaded Vol 1 which is basically Passion and Warfare and I have to say...what a fantastic idea!!

I am no Steve Vai so probably 80% of the guitar playing I could never keep up with so to be able to use the backing tracks and create my own is great fun!

I really wish some other classic "guitar"albums would be released the same, in fact I am going to petition Paul Gilbert to release his last 2 albums in the same way.

Highly recommend!

+1

I happened across this the other day on iTunes. What an awesome idea. I hope it takes off with other classic albums. If nothing else, it's a really good way to improve your chops.

I have all of Vai's Hal Leonard Signature Licks "Naked Vamps" Book/CD paks that were released over the last ten years or so. I wonder if the mixes and/or loops differ much from those on the same tunes. Anybody that has both please chime in. I may buy the CD set upon release as I'm still "old school" and prefer to own the physical copies/artwork of my favorite CDs.
