Okay, so I spent a couple of hours harrassing Derek at the Ernie Ball booth at Summer NAMM. Derek didn't seem to mind too much, but, then, he is paid to act like he doesn't mind. In any event, I enjoyed picking his brain about the Bongo, and even found out a few tidbits of Bongo history that I will send to Jack so he can update his Bongo info page.
I got to spend a lot of quality time with Bongos of every configuration, and even got to play an amazing fretless 4 string, single humbucker Bongo!
I am embarrassed to say that I didn't get many pics of non Bongo EBs. The mirrored wall was a serious PITA, so there are quite a few pics that didn't turn out, and no amount of Photoshop could fix 'em. The ones I've posted are the best of the bunch.
The LTD Edition Green looks SOOOOOOOO much better in person. The black headstock did not bother me in the leat bit when I saw it up close. The Green with the abalone pickguard looks stunning.
Another big surprise was how great the python pickguard looks with the medallion gold finish. Here's a flash pic that really shows off the python:
Every time I played this bass, I got Zappa's "Stinkfoot" stuck in my head, and I kept thinking about python boots, but I digress...
I spent a good bit of time with the Radiance Red/Tort SC/H/Piezo 5 string, and I was really digging the single coil soloed with a bit of piezo. I CAN'T WAIT FOR MY FRETLESS!!!!!!!!
There was also a stunning Desert Gold 4 string with SC/H, but the pics didn't turn out.
There is a picture of a nice SUB Sterling fretless 4 string, and all of the SUB fretless basses were great.
Here are some more pics--Enjoy!

Oh, and FWIW--I played a lot of basses at NAMM in a bunch of different price ranges, and NOT A ONE of them could hold a candle to the Bongo. The only non-Bongo bass that gave me any GAS at all was a Fender Custom Shop Master Built Relic 54 PBass in salmon pink--and I could buy 3 Bongos for the same price!
