No offense guys, but these bright colors are just not what i'm looking for in the appearance department... I played Lakland, Warwich, BTB, etc..... love those looks, but when i picked up the Stingray 5 HH, well, it just sounded right. I was not surprised... but dismayed at the finish choices.... the closest I see to my hope might be the Honeyburst.....

any thoughts guys? I would hate to get a new Stingray and strip it down.... not knowing what I would see underneath....

if you buy a natural one you can see what is underneath. then finish it in the color you want it to have.

perhaps there will be some options coming next month since they are removing some colors and variants to make room for new products? :)

I always find it odd when anyone fusses over
the color of an SR5. Most of what you see is
all PG. If you get a burst finish, most of the
trans area is hidden by the PG and what you
do see of the body is mainly the black edges.
Verrrry little wood to be seen.

So, you might just as well get a black one. A
solid color is cheaper, and you can spend just
half of your savings on a way cool custom PG,
putting your appearance budget where it can
really be seen !

I always find it odd when anyone fusses over what someone says they like. but in the spirit of fairness, i will include a picture of a BFR that demonstrates what I mean. If the picture doesn't show up, I will include the link.

This is what I mean by a dark wood Stingray 5. There is no pick guard.

So get all defensive if you want. You mention various basses
that have no PG. And state that you love the look of dark
wood on those basses. And further state that you played an
ordinary SR5, loved the playing but not the finish.

It was/is rather helpful of me to point out that an SR5 differs
from those other fine wood basses in that it is largely hidden
by its huge PG.

Your later posting of a pic of a verrrrrry limited special run
SR5 having no PG is .... uhmnnn .... interesting. Find one. I
truly wish you luck [and patience] in that pursuit. It's clearly
the holy grail per your OP. Find one and you'll surely love it.
They turn up now and then, and this is THE place to watch.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

P.S. I have 6 of those beautiful wood basses, those that you
specifically mention. And I have 3 SR5's, the non-exotic type
with the huge PG's. Credite rebus.

I think the answer is what MrMushashi said. Get one that fits your needs. I dig what your saying. Some people like natural wood in different shades. I'm not a fan of the natural basses EBMM has, because they're essentially maple colored. But there are limited runs that are darker. I hope you can find what you're looking for.

Wow ? Mebbe I need to specify that when I say

" I have 6 of those beautiful wood basses, those that
you specifically mention. And I have 3 SR5's, the
non-exotic type with the huge PG's. " ..... I refer to
the basses you "specifically mention" in your OP,
meaning a half dozen Warwicks and BTBs. I did NOT
mean a 1/2 doz dark wood BFR specials as you show
in a yet further post.

I spoze I shouda said "that you specifically mention
in your OP". Skyoozee if I misled ..... altho my sig
does list no BFRs or such.
