Was lucky enough to find this '87 Ray...Red with birdseye maple neck.weighs 9.0lbs..2 band eq...as per the M.M. serial number decoder: 025410 Mainufactured; May Ma13 1987 Model STING SPECIAL MAPLE 2EQ. So my question is does the word "SPECIAL" denote a special order? Also no mention if the color of the bass... too bright to be a wine... it's an opaque finish, maybe toolbox red? Overall, really liking the bass. The next profile is more slender than my 90's stingrays and I'm appreciating that as I have developed some arthritis in my hands ...thanks

Back then, Special Feature colours were offered periodically in addition to the standard offerings. IIRC, "Fire Engine Red" started out as a special feature colour. I'm guessing this is the colour of your Bass and the reason why it's described as "Special" in the serial number data base.
