Wow... bigtime bummer.

It's absolutely beautiful, but there are several serious problems with this bass, and I've spent an entire evening trying to resolve them... to no avail.

I guess I'll be calling customer service on Monday...

Ugh...

Oh No! What's going on?

Frankly, there are several pretty big issues...

First and most importantly, I think the preamp is bad. This bass is almost half the volume of all my other basses... even my passive basses.

I recorded this sample, so you can hear what I mean. The first 8 bars are my SR4 and the second 8 are the roasted SR5... both samples were recorded identically with no changes to levels or EQ or cables. Both basses are set completely flat. I played one part with one bass, switched basses, and played the second. The battery was tested... it registers at 9.5v.

The difference is pretty obvious.

The second issue is the nut... the G string nut slot was cut so close to the edge of the fingerboard that from about the 7th fret to the 1st fret the string literally rests on the fret bevel when fretted. It's almost impossible to play anything without the string falling off the fingerboard. It's not an issue of technique either... I am a finger-tip player and have spent a lot of years trying to perferct proper hand positioning. I don't have this issue on any other bass I own.

It also doesn't help that the fret edge bevel on the treble side of the fingerboard is noticeably wider than on the bass side of the board... which makes the problem even worse.

Next, is the truss rod wheel... it is almost frozen. I got it to move, but it is VERY difficult and makes me incredibly nervous that it will snap. It's like this turning in either direction.

The next issue is that this bass will not set up well. The neck is currently set with about 0.010 relief at the 6th fret. Both the B and the G strings are literally bottomed out on the bridge and I'm still getting 0.100" from the bottom of the string to the top of the 12th fret, with no fret buzz. This might be great for some of you... and it's actually pretty close to how I like it, but the fact that I can't go any lower even if I wanted to is a pretty big issue for me. I like low action... and I actually like a little fret buzz when I dig in.

So... there you have it.

I've got an email into my dealer... he passed it on to EBMM. So, I'm hoping I'll get to talk to someone on Monday. I've heard great things about EBMM customer service, so I have high hopes that they'll be able to take care of these issues for me.

I absolutely LOVE this bass... the aesthetics are exactly what I was looking for, and I want it to work out for me very badly.

Man, i'm very sorry to hear this. What a bummer! Hopefully you can get everything taken care of in a prompt, professional manner. Good luck to you, and make sure to keep us informed as to how everthing works out. I don't even know you and I feel sick right now.

Hey, thanks man... I appreciate it.

I stewed on this all weekend and am seriously bummed aobut it.

I have high hopes that EBMM will take care of everything, but, if not, then my dealer has already told me that he's got my back.

Billy in CS rocks!

The bass will be on its way back to EBMM tomorrow, and, so far, it seems that the issues will be resolved.

I'm definitely sad, but I'm really looking forward to getting it back and gigging with it soon.
