Hi, I don't post new threads often, but I just got a Silhouette Baritone / 6 String Bass, and I thought I'd ask a question and show some pictures. Looks like depending on the strings, I can string this as a six string bass or a baritone guitar. It's strung as a 6 string bass for now.

Question 1. For those who have/had one of these, do you prefer to string it as a bass (tuned E to e) or as a baritone guitar (A to a)?

Question 2. What kind of rig to you play it through? I find that the lowest notes run out of steam playing through my normal guitar rig, at least strung up as a six string bass.

Olive Gold is my favorite color. Glad it's back on the LUKE III. It's tough to capture in a picture, though my last two get pretty close.

Nice!
I have one too! its been so long since i've been on this forum though I've forgotten the name of the colour i have it in!
I play it through either my Blackstar 100watt or My Pod HD500 which seems fine to me. If you go to the iTunes link in my sig and listen to 'Caved kind dots' you will hear what one sounds like through a pod XT live.
I have it Tuned A-A. Either rig seems to cope well enough on the low end ( I play an 8 string through my Blackstar and that copes alright though).

Wow thats nice, man rare beast for sure, olive gold is a fantastic color. I always had them A to a something different, since this one is factory E to e just get some A to a set strings and check it out, not sure about the low end issue, do not remember having that issue. Man may have to check into getting another one makes me miss it:) Congrats on that!!!

Being that until last week that was my Bass.. I would say string it Atoa or Btob. or Etoe as a bass. I could not play it as a bass the way it needed to be played, so it hit the bay, glad it stayed with a knucklehead.. My Baritone guitar which is one of the few that is not an EBMM is tuned Atoa also. With the correct gauge strings you can tune that thing any way you like.

Also I played it through a mesa boogie walkabout 12" bas combo, or a mesa boogie Titan v12 driving a 4ohm Avatar, or MB 2x12. would get real fuzzy with the gain cranked. I wish i could have played it better. Im really just more of a 4 string kind of guy.

I would say either! I have the jet black model with the birdseye maple neck. They are quite a treat. What did you pay for yours?

I found that if you are a guitar player, Laying down bass tracks is very easy, and those dimarzio pickups with coil tapping work well even straight in the board. I recommend using those felt picks so you don't get the plunking sound.. unless you are into it.

Finally, These guitars can be a beast to manage the low end with recording. They have frequencies Well below the response of most speakers (I've found frequencies lower than 30hertz!!)... I find using a Highpass Filter to cut to about 80 hertz cleans up that guitar nice on both bass and baritone mode. For distortion, I'll cut the Baritone with a high pass filter to about 100-140 hz. Then it's a breeze to mix with guitars.... Its a beefy monster in a secret squirrel package!
