Hello all, got a couple questions today.

I have an '89 SR4 and a '95 SR5. Are their pickups made out of the same materials, or is the SR5 new enough that it has different pickups (other than obviously being for a 5 string)?

Secondly, what is the right way to care for MM necks and fretboards? My SR4 has a maple neck and fretboard, while my SR5 has a maple neck with a non-laquer finish and rosewood fretboard. I remember seeing a page on this somewhere, but wasn't able to find it again.

"Wonder Wipes" Instrument Polish for your 1989 Bass...all over...body and neck (both back of neck and fret board). An alternative a general instrument polish.

For your SR5 use "Wonder Wipes" Fretboard Conditioner to the fretboard. To the back of the neck, firstly use Birchwood Casey gunstock oil followed by Birchwood Casey gun wax. Do a Forum search as to how the oil and wax is to be applied. An alternative to the fretboard would be lemmon oil or similar. Stick with the Birchwood Casey products for the back of the neck.

The SR5's have just gone back to Alnico pole pieces (as from March?)

P.S. As your SR4 has a sealed neck, don't use a fretboard conditioner...only polish.

So only birchwood casey? No alternative gun stock oils? I ask because I already have some stock oil that I use on my guns, but it isn't that particular brand.

Thanks for the info.
