If you haven't done it before and/or don't intend to do these types of repairs much in the future then a tech is your best bet for desired results (and sanity).

Otherwise if you are handy and a DIY-type check out Youtube videos for ding repairs for reference. A common method is wood dust and thinned down super glue as a filler to get the ding back to approximate level. After that gently scrape down and polish back up until you can't feel it. You could try color matching using furniture touch up or artist markers to help visibly blend in better.
