Hey look at me, I started a thread with JP in the title! :p

I wanted to ask a question, I really REALLY like the neck feel and finish on the BFR JP, so much that I'd consider getting one of my AL's or Silo Special's refinished in a gloss. Now I know you guys are going to be all like " Come on rob, the EBMM necks are so good, dont be a tool", well yes they are, and yes I am! But as I said I quite like the glossy ultra smooth JP neck. Possible you reckon? Havent heard of anyone doing it to an EBMM neck before, if I could find a good local guy I might do it.

Well, Rob, why don't just buy a pre-92 silo, SSS if You like - they all were finished, AND its the EBMM finish we are talking about. My old silo made me a total convert - the second one is on its way

The same came to my mind. But is the neck-finish on the earlier EBMMs the same as on the JP BFRs? Does it feel the same?

Or do you, Rob, have to buy a JP BFR? :D The SSS-silos do have 24 frets so the neck pickup will sound differently

btw D.K.: your silo is very hot!

Well, I do have both - the neck finish on the BFR is different, for sure, but both feel very comfortable despite the finishing.

if a neck has oil in it already, will be very difficult to get sealer and top coats to stick to it. Better off purchasing a guitar w/ the finish already on it.

A topic that always seemed to spark sh*t storms years ago used to be the neck sealing that was an option if you sent your guitar to EBMM for service.

The neck was sealed with a mixture of crazy glue and acetone. It left a very hard finish that has lasted almost 6 years on my JP. I think the neck was degreased or de-oil'd first with naphtha.

It's almost a satin type finish that was supposed to help keep the neck more stable through climate changes.

Works for me...

I wuz gonna say , to paint the neck would require getting all the oils and waxes off of it so the new finish would adhere. A good finisher would know how to do it. I think it's a great idea mate. Go for it. It's one reason I like my subs, the painted necks.
